Damned 9-11

I hate what 9-11 has done to our cross border travel. My father just pasted away and now have to head to Manitoba for his funeral and the driving distance return is over 1000 kms which calculates to about another 11 -12 hours of road time if all the weather conditions are okay. I have a passport because I had to for work related training but the wife doesn't have hers because we don't travel too far and thus we have to take the long way. Sorry about my downer mood. :(

That does suck. Have you double checked to see if a drivers license will get her through customs?

Sorry for your loss, too.

i have used the drivers licence to cross the border in sarnia

Apparantly the passport is only for air travel. The licence still works without a passport.

I had more issues getting back into canada because my ontario licence and ontario plates and ontario insurance didnt make sense to them ..... *shakes head at stupidity*

Sorry about your loss, 71D. Hopefully the anticipated frustrations compounding it will be a non-issue.

Sorry for your loss Gary. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Thanks for the condolences and prayers guys. It's going to be a long drive (bout 28 hrs each way) but we'll make it thru with a little help from mother nature. At least dad isn't in pain anymore and is in a better place. Mom past about 7 years ago after fighting cancer and heart problems.

Well just got back from sw Manitoba early this morning and the trip went well. ( a quick 6 day trip) Round trip was 5041 kms or 3150 miles and we had good highway conditions both ways. Even thou it was curvy and mountain like most of the way my Avenger did 31.4 mpg per US gallon. Most of the time the mini computer showed an average of 7.3 litres per 100 kms but it had one tank that we got it down to 6.7/100 on some flat areas. My wife says that her but wants a 3 week vacation and I told her I had a dinosaur behind me. A megasaurass. I got hit for that. It was nice to see some of the people I hadn't seen for a long time, just would have been nicer if under better circumstances. All in all my father had a pretty good life (84) but things got a lot harder when mom pasted 9 years ago. At least his pain and suffering is gone and he went in his sleep.

The lord has blessed you with fond memories of your Dad. Cherish them and enjoy them! Thats what they are for!
