Well guys, that topic was a humerous attempt at saying I drug a shell off, picked up another, and dang near had a bird into my windshield!
Was going to haul a Volare 4-dr off but I found the belt on my dads compressor busted
. Had it loaded with junk and everything, I just needed to pull the frontend for a friend and the wheels. So, I went and got a freebie 80s Caprice body. He kept the frame and drivetrain, but hey, free is free. We loaded it in the dark and I took it over to a buddys house, we weighed it, and took it to the JY.
He had recently bought a '65 Fury III sedan at an auction for scrap and he was going to take it to the yard. Well, I told him I'd give him what he wanted and I picked it up at the yard. Dragged it home, unloaded it, and I took him home and to re-weigh my trailer empty. Came close to hitting a 4-point buck on my way there.
On the way back, near where the deer was, there was a big ass bird in the road, and what does that little SOB do? Flies up to eye level, and NOT to the side. Hell no all I see is this big SOB in my windshield and said oh shit, or something to that effect, while slamming on the brakes and swerving a little bit. Scared the hell out of me! I dont think my automotive windshield is rated for bird strikes! Then there was a smaller one later on down the road but he was already in the air by the time I reached him.
I only looked at my car with a flashlight and headlights, not in daylight, though I did glance at it at the auction. Its a '65 Fury III 4-dr sedan, white on tan, pretty much complete, needs a back bumper and the grille pulled out, otherwise it isnt bad at all. Also needs some work in the rt. rear taillight area. Very little rust that I could see. Motor is a Poly 318 that I found had the front end off it, probably due to a bad chain or something. Most of the parts were in the back however. Dont know how long its been like that but the hood was closed.
What I'm going to do with it is a mystery but its a keeper. My Mom had a '65 Fury III back in the 70s and she loved it, it was a 2-dr with a 383-4v, she said that sucker would run. Also, was kinda looking for that body style because in a cool music video there was a '66 2-dr. Think the song was "Makin' good time" or something like that.
Some ideas that popped into my head were a BB swap, drag car, or road racer.
Best part? It was pretty much free! I was given the caprice body, was owed some from the yard on a Truck I hauled out there (I had $125 into the truck but I kept the early 360, so the $$ I got out of it was extra).
