I'm sure it's like everything else. They need/want to recover the cost of engineering, development, and manufacturing as fast as they can. But at what point is it "over priced" so it doesn't sell. That being said. Judging by how it works there must be ALOT of expensive technology in that thing.

I'm doubtful they're going to sell many, if any, of them. Seriously, if it works it's completely cool, but I think maybe before they went for the cool factor they should have done a little market research.

"If we could install a gauge in your dash that will tell you instantaneous horsepower and torque at the transmission output, would you buy it?"

"Hell yes!! That would be awesome!!"

At that point, I think they forgot Question #2:

"Would you pay $5,000 to have it?"

"Uh, that's like 15-20 trips to an actual dyno cell, homes." :D

Or, better yet, imagine trying to explain spending a huge percentage of your yearly income on a blinky light and digital readout in a 2" hole in your dash to your wife... "And this little blinking round thing does what?! You realize your son needs braces and your daughter's planning on college, right?" Yeah, there's a conversation I don't need. Tyrannosaurus Ex had a spell when I spent $20 on a carb kit for the Thermo-Quad on the Black Bitch, which was just a toy at the time and still running a 200,000-mile 400.
