Cool shit I get to work on

Stretch

Hey! There’s no easy button for a body like this!
I have a ton of pictures of the "cool" stuff I get to work on. There is no real order to these pics, I'm just posting them as I have time. I kinda have the "car Guy" rep around town so I get alot of the classics. I'll try and post the info about each as I remember it but I have done a pretty damn good job of killing brain cells over the years (I am buddys with Jass) so some specifics have long been lost!:D

Enjoy them as they come.

This first set are of a "56 ford that came fresh from the resto shop. Randy sends me a buch of work. This thing is cool and the engine is supposedly an ex NASCAR mill. Cool stuf and it pulls HARD in all 4 gears! Check out the factory tach! That has got to be rare!!!

My Dad's hot rod when I was a kid was a 57 Fairlane 500 hardtop with a transplanted 312. It was two tone black n' white with the gold trim on the front fenders and the doors. I remember it being low to the ground with chrome reverse wheels & baby moon hubcaps. It was loud.

I was like 8 or 10 years old and I absolutely loved that car. Especially the big round tail-lights and the speaker that came down in the middle of the rear seat with the spring reverb. Still have a soft spot for Fairlanes. Matter of fact just about the only Ford I lust after enough to want to own it is a '66 Fairlane.

Nice!

Hey, can you go across the street and ask them if I can get a fireplace IN my spa or do I have to have a spa IN my fireplace?

That was my first car.:) I still love the reverse opening hood on those. That 56 is begging me to radius the rear wheel arches and add a straight axle and a tunnel rammed FE with fenderwell headers. I'm twisted.

When you said, "It pulls hard in all 4 gears", I thought you meant that it had a 4 speed. Now I see that it has a 3 speed + OD......that IS 4 gears.

This is a "56 olds. It was brought here by the same shop that redid the '56 ford. He painted this car 20+ years ago. Check out the trick valve covers! It was in his shop for some minor pollishing and a new stroker (383 chevy) engine. What a sleeper! This thing halls ass!

Back in the 50's & 60's, Olds always did build some strong motors, but usually the bodies were so heavy they weren't the best off the line.

When I was 17 I put a 56 Olds 324 in a 55 Poncho 2dr sedan with a Caddy LaSalle 3 spd. That thing really booked. :vroom:

That's when I learned how to double-clutch. The LaSalle trannies have NO syncros.

This as a original '64 falcon. I did some brake work and an alignment on it. I think I fixed a fuel leak too. It has a 2 speed auto and only has around 40,000 miles on it.

That guy with the Falcon really pissed me off. No one else in town could find drums for that car, but I did. I could have 'em the next day. I gave him a printed price quote for the drums, and he took it all over town so other places could cross the number into their own. He bought the drums elsewhere because they were a few dollars cheaper after I did all the legwork no one else could seem to do. It wouldn't piss me off so much if I hadn't known the guy for over 25 years. Thanks, ol' buddy.

ahh that 57 3od unit..funnest trans ive ever driven..same moter and trans in my 58 ford.......

you do get some pretty old ladys in there....and you SUCK for it

Love the Olds. Guy in my former car club has a 55 holiday super 88 4 dr hardtop that looks similar. Untouched survivor car in near perfect condition. He's a Ford guy, but couldn't resist the Olds when it came his way.

People only get to do that to me once. Then I no longer waste my time on them, as they seem to feel my time has no value. I prefer to spend my time on my customers.

Well, I'd cut the drums on the lathe a week or so prior, and he came in accusing me of screwing them up because they warped again. Hey, if you don't know how to drive a car with 4-wheel drum brakes, then don't buy one. You can't essentially panic-stop the thing every time you come to a light, especially when the drums are nearly 50 years old. Knowing the guy as long as I have, I would've maybe cut him a better deal, but when you walk in and start the finger-pointing before you even say "Hello" to someone you've known that long, too f__kin' bad. What's worse is his girlfriend/wife was in the day prior yelping about it while buying wiper blades or something.

I don't think the drum thing was his fault and I know it wasn't yours. That car sat for YEARS!!!! I think that had more do do with it than any thing else. You should have seen the brake shoes on it. They looked like a dried up pice of lye soap!
