Stretch

Hey! There’s no easy button for a body like this!
This came into the shop today for new wheels and tires and its first alignment since being reassembled after a rotisserie restoration. This car is very nice and the man who owns it did the body work himself. He is waiting for the rest of the interior to return from the upholstery shop and the bumpers to return from rechromeing. He has the rest of the glass too. After final assembly it will be returning for another alignment but he wanted to drive it some before winter.

It will be going in for a new exhaust system shortly; he is very unpleased with the work done at a local shop here. (The same shop that felt the need to cut my charger with a torch to install exhaust hangers) He will be taking it to a shop in Iron River MI. for a second new system.

The before pictures.

So he bought four new tires but then drove home on the space-savers? :D

Neat car, nice rims... needs a lot more sidewall.

Nice car. It needs more sidewall and maybe a little lower to the ground. Besides the awful tailpipes, what's wrong with the exhaust? It doesn't look too bad.

I'm also not a fan of lo-profile tires, I think the before wheels are nicer. But it's not mine, and I ain't payin for it. If the owner likes it, that's what counts.

Nomads drool cool. But I'm going to complain about the tire size also....:D

I had a nice 57 Bel-Air in for an alignment fresh from a 4 year long resto a couple weeks ago, of course I forgot the camera.
It had the same color scheme as that one. :)

I don’t think the tire size is all that far off. The car has next to no glass in it and no interior other than the front seat and front carpet. There are no bumper brackets or bumper on the front. The rear window glass and frame is not on the car and it has no side glass other than the rear corners and the vent window on the doors. I think the car will come down about two inches all the way around when it is all done do to the added weight of the rest of the parts and time for the new springs to settle. The front suspension is all the way up, as in the upper A-arms are touching the frame bumpers.

Normally I would not have aligned the car because the added weight of the rest of the parts will affect the final ride height and the alignment angles. He will work on the car over the winter to complete it but he wanted to drive it for now to work out any bugs that may pop up. He is planning to bring it back in the spring.

He is running a ’56 267 and a 700r4 trany with the original rear end. It runs and drives real nice. I can’t wait to see it when it is all done.

As for the exhaust, It hangs very low the bends are shitty looking and they didn’t use any of the factory exhaust hanger brackets that are hanging from the frame. They put 3/8 bolts through holes in the frame with large washers and used universal frame hangers .The tail pipes come straight out the rear and not out at the corners of the rear bumper in the factory location like he said he told them he wanted it. He also wanted the pipes tucked up tight so they can’t be seen. They hang about three inches below the frame rails. If you could see it in person you would agree that it isn’t up to the quality of the rest of the car.

I dunno... I think the wheel openings are way too big for the tires, regardless of ride height.

Oh... and the 267 wasn't introduced until the mid '70s, primarily as a Monza engine. :D

i dont mind those old nomads..but no matter how much the car comes down there aint enuf side wall...imo when you have wheelwells designed for truck tires you best be filling the space or chopping down the wells
