Add yet another vet bill to the pile...

The puppy is growing like crazy and becoming a great pet but she scared the crap outta me on Monday. She has taken a fondness for car rides so we hopped in the RR for a slow lap around town and stopped at a buddys house to see the progress on his Duster. As we were chatting and looking at the car I heard the dog lapping at what she thought was tasty water, green water also know as liquid death..antifreeze! It was sitting in a pan under the front bumper forgotten and unseen by us untill I heard her tasting it.

I freaked and rammed my hand down her mouth forcing her to gag and shredding my hand in the process. Of course no vet is open on a holiday but we managed to get ahold of an emergency vet service to have a look at her and after much debate and hair pulling about the amount she could have gotten and that fact I made her vomit right away we decided to monitor her closely for 24 hours instead of beginning the 3 day process of hospitalization and detoxification.

She spent Tuesday morning at our vet having her urine and kidneys tested and came home that afternoon with a clean bill of health.

Luckily she only managed a couple laps of the tongue and my quick action saved us from the trauma of the agressive treatment and she pulled through just fine...my nerves were not so lucky. :(

Of course had I been paying better attention the whole ordeal could have been prevented, lesson learned.

Yeah dogs are a curious and sneaky creature. Glad she's ok and good job on the quick thinking! ;)

Next door neighbor just spent $3200.00........yes $3200.00 saving both of his dogs 2 months ago from the 2 of them knocking down a left over 3/4 gallon of antifreeze.
Me?, I dont know that I would have gone that far but his youngest dogs name is Hemi, Dave said he just couldn't pull the trigger on him so soon.

Both are doing great and he doesn't regret the money spent to save them.

you did good beep....don't beat yourself up over it, dogs and kids always seem to find trouble no matter how hard you watch them. ;) thank goodness she is okay. :)

thats weird cause all of the dogs ive ever had take 1 sniff of antifreeze and turnthere nose up and walk away...ive always asumed that dogs sense of smell told them it was not a good thing to drink

That's scary stuff. We get real attached to our pets, and though some wonder why we go to such lengths to save them, they're family. It's just what you do. Glad it turned out okay.

Beep, I'm glad that pupsters is fine. But Gio has been drinking antifreeze for years and he's still aliv........um self-animated.

Oddly enough it is the sweet scent and taste that attracts them. Many years ago a neighbor lost their English Sheep Dog to the antifreeze he had in the corner of his garage in a pan, not knowing how deadly and attraccting it is to the dog. Pets are family and as owners we go the extra mile for them as they will for us where they can. There has been a lot of cases of man,'s best friend waking a sleeping family whose house was on fire, etc. I would have done the same as you if either of my Goldens were to have that happen.Glad to hear she is none the worse for wear and hopefully smarter for it.

I've seen like maybe 3 dogs that are victims of antifreeze and other chemicals. The worst I've seen is one of my neighbors lose one of his little ones by leaving that shit in the open and was doused by it. I had drums that I would put it in and take it to a collection center. When I had my garage I would NEVER leave shit out like that in the open. Antifreeze, gasoline, thinner, oil, etc. does not even belong like that in the open. Bottle it up, put it up higher, lock it up, stick it up someone ass that you don't care about, DO SOMETHING!!

I'm not pointing anyone out, but some dumbfucks need to think a little bit harder before leaving that shit around like that....

Good to know your pup is doing great!! :)
