I did a more thorough check of the rust, of which there is an abundance, but it looks like the roof can be saved. It will need both rear rails, trunk floors and extensions, deck lid, Dutchman panel, or trunk filler, right wheel well, both full rear 1/4's, right outer rocker, full floors and torsion bar x-member. That piece is odd, it's rotted away and the ends of both front rails. The last 8-10" of the front rails are rusty and pitted but not really soft, could I blast them and cap the last foot of them and that suffice? Both dogleg sections of the front fenders need work, and the top of the driver side has a quarter sized hole. I see where there's going to have to be some patch work done on the firewall, but the fenders will hide it so I'm not to concerned about that.

I'll get more pics of the really rusty areas tomorrow.

sounds like in the end youll be WAY WAY WAY ahead of yourself for letting it go...i wouldnt have touched something that far gone and i have no issues working with rust

OK, this is getting weird, 71.

I bought a '74 Challenger... then you did.
You bought a BMW (Big Mopar Wagon)... then I did.
You bought a '69 Valiant a week prior to my doing the same (that coincidence still kills me).

I'm pretty sure if you buy some vintage of Imperial coupe within the next year or so, the universe will collapse in on itself. :D

Starting with the '74 should put you way ahead of the game financially. Right off the bat, it's got (or at least had) a Rallye cluster and the good hood. Who doesn't want those?! Hell, I have two of 'em and only one car! Coincidentally, I found another one locally yesterday--so if the '74 is missing its original, I might be able to get you a decent start at replacing it at a much-better price than I paid initially. A distinct advantage to having the same-year car as me? I can tell you what stuff is a miserable prick to find (usable bucket seat cores and parts*, lower valance insert, 3-speed wiper switch, etc.), and what you should really pay for certain things on the used market. Don't go buying stuff until you see if I have it on hand, either! About the only spares I have that I wouldn't sell are the aforementioned cluster (my second one is an amazing original I got from 6pkrunner that I might use instead of the restored one) and exterior body panels--I live in heavy-duty deer country and as such, I have an entire spare front clip.

* If you have seat issues, let me know. I'm very well-versed, and well-equipped to help you, in that department. The mid-'72 through '74 buckets are total bastards from every angle. Non-replaceable foams, back-release latches made of unobtainium, etc.

Awesome!

If I buy an Imperial coupe it will have to be of 1969-72 vintage.

I want the TA hood, so the rusty original hood is of no consequence. Rallye dash is MIA, unfortunately, but I do have the dash frame and VIN plate. I want comfortable bucket seats so originals are out, but they are still in the car. Unlike you Doc, originality for me, in many instances, is unnecessary although the Rallye dash is going to have to be there.

I remember the lower valance insert is a PITA to locate.

Like the '70, this is a project car, and parts hunting is going to be an adventure, except tail lights of course.

So, the Challenger is on it's way to a new life, I had to drag something else home...

Dragged from it's 26 year JY slumber.

Once I pressure washed the moss and crap off it's really not a bad car. Floors and tiny spot behind the left rear wheel well at the only rust on the whole thing. bought it for a parts car, now I'm thinking race car.

Dood, I could not tell what that thing was on my phone. I'm guessing now that it's a '67 A-body 2-door sedan, but even that's a bit of a shot in the dark. The bodyside moulding just screams "Chevy II" so loudly it's throwing me off completely.

Well, because you have two '69 Valiants and they're both blue, from this point forward when I mean this one I'll refer to it as the Nova. That moulding is kicking my butt. :D

yeah that nova trim is..the worst i saw chevy2 as well...but it looks like a pretty clean lil valiant

I definitely see 66-7 Chevy II in this one, between the moulding and the lack of a grille it's pretty bad. I do like those Novas though, so I can deal.

She's pretty solid for sitting in the JY since the early 1990's.
