OK, this is getting weird, 71.
I bought a '74 Challenger... then you did.
You bought a BMW (Big Mopar Wagon)... then I did.
You bought a '69 Valiant a week prior to my doing the same (that coincidence still kills me).
I'm pretty sure if you buy some vintage of Imperial coupe within the next year or so, the universe will collapse in on itself.
Starting with the '74 should put you way ahead of the game financially. Right off the bat, it's got (or at least had) a Rallye cluster and the good hood. Who doesn't want those?! Hell, I have two of 'em and only one car! Coincidentally, I found another one locally yesterday--so if the '74 is missing its original, I might be able to get you a decent start at replacing it at a much-better price than I paid initially. A distinct advantage to having the same-year car as me? I can tell you what stuff is a miserable prick to find (usable bucket seat cores and parts
*, lower valance insert, 3-speed wiper switch, etc.), and what you should really pay for certain things on the used market. Don't go buying stuff until you see if I have it on hand, either! About the only spares I have that I wouldn't sell are the aforementioned cluster (my second one is an amazing original I got from 6pkrunner that I might use instead of the restored one) and exterior body panels--I live in heavy-duty deer country and as such, I have an entire spare front clip.
* If you have seat issues, let me know. I'm very well-versed, and well-equipped to help you, in that department. The mid-'72 through '74 buckets are total bastards from every angle. Non-replaceable foams, back-release latches made of unobtainium, etc.
