centrifugal superchargers

been doing alot of reading (yes i can read smart a$$es) on centrifugal superchargers & the HP gains seem pretty incredable.

http://www.procharger.com/

what do you guys think about them?

are they consistant for bracket racing?

greg73cuda

i would imagine they would be as consistant as a turbo..but imo forced induction of anykind is best used with EFI

I would think that a good supercharger and EFI would be very consistent. Course, you would have to tinker with a lap-top to get it set up...that could be time consuming [smilie=e:

and dangerous if you did it while driving.....

I have heard good & bad about Edelbrocks EFI, but paxton made a good living from their superchargers for many years.

I read somewhere that paxton started as a division of studebaker...

carb is the way to go with a p600b style set up. procharger lists them for the fords & cheby boys with as much as 50% HP gains

Not sure if carbs are the way to go Greg. A friend local to me has a stroked 383 with a procharger on it. Makes loads of power.

Unfortunately during a test and tune he went lean and melted his pistons.
This is with a blower prepped carb.

Nice system but you best be really good with tuning and carbs

They do work good, no doubt....but as Rob says....if it goes lean kiss the motor goodbye. An aftermarket block would be a good investment along with h-beams and forged blower pistons....not a cheap proposition. I like the all throttle approach personally...a 500 ci stroker will make good power and be soo much easier to dial in, inmo.

all good advice. now how about a 500 cu w/ a procharger.lol

ARRRRGH [smilie=2: ! Get outa my head!
Well, at least take your muddy boots off next time. And you forgot to mention the EFI, KB block and Eddy heads

BTW... "HOOK" [smilie=e: ? Are you kidding??? [smilie=e: [smilie=e: [smilie=e:

too much stuff to dial in for a bracket moder,IMO,you can go 9's easy on naturally aspirated,or a shot of juice,if you wanna' drop the $$$$$,for a bracket engine,I think simple good matching driveline components is better, but I'm just a stoopid body/chassis guy,,,

Ya right.....somehow i have a hard time believing that one, lol !! Walk softly and carry a big stick.....i'm confident the ole 63 will raise a few eyebrows when she hits the street/track.....CP chebby boys look out [smilie=2:

You know the old saying---
injection is nice but I'd rather be blown!!

The superchargers seem pretty cool, but if you're going to spend the time and money why not go turbo? Yes, there is a steep learning curve, but the HP potiential is incredible. Also, there are a few guys running in excess of 1000hp on stock MP blocks. In my experiences; tribal knowledge dictated that greater than 700hp on a B/RB block cause main cap walk. There was a good discussion on this subject on the turbomustang site (those not familiar with the site, it's not just for fords). Something to do with detnotation and timing makes a well set up turbo applicaiton easier on parts.

I'm pretty happy with my old school N/A set up, but if I had the money a 1000 hp turbo application sure would be fun on the street!
