CB Radio Antenna.

Well considering we made am/fm radios in high school out of tin foil, cardboard and speaker wire.... I would assume the answer would be yes. :p:huh:
 
stainless steel whips now? nah. can't touch this one.

hell the truckers have fibreglass whips with wire coiled up it, I can't see why anything conductive wouldn't work.
I think it has more to do with length or something. SWR meters and crap.

get it working then tape your flourescent black light bulb to it and key up the mic. [smilie=2:
 
theres a stainless steel whip on the ramcharger and it IS a cb antenna sooo obviously the answer is yes

personaly i like to convert big long CB antennas into am/fm antena's...get all the local stations for an extra 50 miles or more as well as a much cleaner signal

now if ya wanna bost your home stereo run the antena lead out a window and wire it to your metal gutters....reception from hell

SWR - Standing Wave Ratio

DO NOT key the mic until you've had the antenna metered in.:naughty:

You can get a book on antenna building and SWR meter at the local radio shack. stainless steel is good for making antennas, even Andy Taylor had one on the Mayberry squad car.
 
A straight whip would need to be pretty long to give the best performance.

102" is the ideal length for a 1/4 wave antenna.

Most mobile CB antennas have a coil to make up the difference between the length of the whip and 102"

I still have my modified Cobra 2000GTL it has over 350 channels, and sports a D-104 loli-pop.I also run for a mobile, a Galaxy Pluto export unit with the same channels and a D-104m. My next investment will be a Wilson 2000 antenna. When I had the base running it was hooked to a Boomer-250 ( for a little extra kick) and an Antron-99 fiberglass antenna. It was good for about a 40 mile range, and some serious skip talk.
 
mr 340-----you wouldn,t know the lil pistol would you. ???? however you can also take the wire and strip it - pull the mesh back and trim the copper wire and strech to 102.. this will give you an antena also. it,s called a dipole. it will work. i go back to the Raytel,s hahaha...i knew guy,s who would build their units into the floor or wall to hide the power from the gov, boys. the boots they were kicking were so great sometimes you think the arials were red.. we would kick so hard we could tie up the neighbourhood tv programs and they could hear us talking. the conversations that went on were funny. the airwaves were ours un til someguy,s were shut down. the fines started to fly and you shut down just as fast. if the radar was out anyone driving around would spot and report and the waves dried up fast:bwuhaha:---but the arials could bend--- ah those were the days:bwuhaha:
 
aahhh ground planes and shakespears and quads. ....and QSL cards and talking to people in other countries all on a CB...WHEN the nite was rite you could go all over. ever tried running a chain from your car to the rr tracks for xtra bounce. what a ground plane. i knew guys who would use the river wiTh the rite set ups.... CQCQCQ---even had fans to keep things cooled at the house.. your system sounds real sweat.. nothing like TWEAKING side channels up and down...your system can walk where ever it wants you can skip anywhere you want:bwuhaha:

Ok, 102" it a little long for what I want. :eek:

So I would have to get a wrapped antenna that has the equivelent length of 102"?

I don't really want fiber glass.

I have two nice ball mounts that I would like to use with a steel if possible antenna.

Will probably be using one of those cobra classic CB's.

Is this gonna work?
 
hey Dippy-- how much do you want to spend and how far do you want to go...????as in how far do you want to get out? out there on the prairies you could skip right into BC with no trouble at all and hit ONT with a real good set up. just like you were next door:bwuhaha::bwuhaha::bwuhaha:-- your nice and flat out there. a little trouble over the mountains but you can do it..if you got the power you could hit the islands inthe south... if i lived on the prairies i would put up a system put it all on a rotor dial in and hit it.. you could punch out every tv set for a mile:bwuhaha:now thats fun. and they don,t know where it,s comin from. your neibours would get pissed but get them involved and you wont have a problem:bwuhaha:or put up a fence:bwuhaha:i shouldn,t start thinkin about this stuff. i might have to build one to cut the craving:bwuhaha:---- I,M A BAAAAAAD BOY:bwuhaha::bwuhaha:

Cobra is a great radio, personally i'd look for a 148 or a 148DX (export), they have a little more power out of the box. what is the application for this setup, a little more info on the plans might help us help you find the right stick for your project.
