...of the RR's alternator today.
We took the car out for one last ride today before putting it up for the season and it was an adventure.
During the ride we stopped at the home of one of my old high school buddies for an impromptu visit and that's were the "fun" took place. Knocked on the door but no one answered so we made an attempt to leave.....as soon as the car fired a loud squealing came from the engine compartment and a cloud of smoke soon followed!!
The alternator had self destructed internally then locked up and shorted out, the smoke came from a fried fusable link.
Not sure what let loose in there but it made a mess....most of the cooling blades are broke an that silver bar is knocked askew. The offending item is still in there, might take it apart for a closer look.
I had a spare alt and fusable link at the shop, some 14 miles from my buddies house.
Luckily for us he came home after about 10 minutes or so and loaned me his car to go fetch the spare parts. Sure glad this did not happen the last time we had it out..some 60 miles from home.
