Cascar at Delaware

restoman

The paint fumes have cleared so I'm
Dave Whitlock starts on the pole for the APC 300 tomorrow at Delaware Speedway.
He clocked a time of 19.4 at around 92.6 mph, which is smokin' fast for a half mile track!
He's got that new Charger working pretty good.
Teammate Mark Dilley starts 5th in the #9 Charger.

Hope they beat the crap out of the paint getting to the front!

Whoa, Cascar is kinda cool

What all differences is there between that and Nascar. As in, engine regulations etc.?

Yeah, Cascar racing is pretty cool.

Huge differences between Nascar and Cascar. The easiest way to explain it is Cascar is where Nascar was twenty years ago in terms of big dollars, huge publicity and the general ridiculousness (sp?) that seems to follow Nascar these days.

The racing is fantastic - very fast and competitive, and some drivers are likely the equal of the Jeff Gordons and Tony Stewarts.

Regs are quite different - the term "gentleman" still applies in Cascar. Wreck someone and you're gonna get penalized.

Engines are production based - Dodges run 340 blocks (372 C.I.), Chevies run small blocks.... All produce in the range of 375 to 475 rear wheel horse power. The sound of a circle track racing engine is incredible, you just know it makes tons of high RPM power! Cascar mandates 390 Holley carbs in an effort to keep speeds down.

Bodies are fiberglass panels riveted together - why Nascar doesn't use these on their short tracks is beyond me - and can take quite a pounding before breaking.

The chassis tube constructed - very strong - and I beleive pretty similar to what they use in the ARCA and Hooters series.

It's good racing. If you ever get the chance to see it in person, Go.

In the winter months, Speed Channel runs taped broadcasts. Tune in if you can.

It was a good race yesterday.
Nice warm weather, some skimpy outfits, and some good racing - couldn't ask for better on a Sunday afternoon.

Whitlock finished eighth, was leading on a restart with five to go when he was beat to the line and fell to third. He fought back to second with two to go but had a front tire going down on the last lap and ran up high in turn three.

Some good wrecks as well, one car caught fire after really hitting the wall hard. The driver walked away and didn't appear hurt. But the car is toast, literally!

My face and neck are sunburned, but it was a good time.
