...remember when they were the main topic of conversation around here? :D

Anyhow, for your enjoyment, I mocked up the 440 for the Tragic Wagon over the weekend. Yes, it's going to be MPFI. No, I don't care about rarity or "what those things are worth" in the least. All the truly-expensive parts are missing anyhow and I got 'em for a song.

Well, if you like, I can limit my posts to that. And go back to coming around here 3 times a year, because that is as often as there is new stuff to see....
Thought it might be nice to talk current events and some of the stuff that's important in my life right now.

Anyways - that's helluva nice setup. Too bad it's going into something so nasty looking.:toot::D

And I think you mighta got took.....those carbs look like they are missing some parts.

That's going to have the WOW factor for sure! Love it!

I rather like the different topics lately, thought the shit show in one of the threads was a little out of style for here.

I don't see what the big deal is. It's just a 440 motor home mill.

ok..,...
YOUR AN ASSHOLE!

id kill for a set of those at a "reasonable" price..and that thing will look very very wicked....you know my standinding on EFI..so i wont go there lol..you going to "hide" the efi as much as can easily be done, or flaunt it?..the piss off factor in me says flaunt it..but the car in question says hide the hell out of it

but i will go here....it kills me that the cast on them is sooo bloody UGLY..they almost look like a 1 off coppy that someone let go of cause of "quality concerns"...id probably spend god knows how long cleaning them up and smoothing them out even if it was just the worst areas...did they "all" come that way from the factory?

that said..on a ratty enuf project id run em as is

Ease up, Hoss. I was just messin' with you. :bravo:

Ugly though the wagon may be, the manifolds are period-correct to the car. It could've been ordered with longrams, which is why I had to jump on them when the opportunity arose. Remember my insistence that it absolutely had to have a big block? Now you know why. I am pretty happy that I lucked into the 440. I was content with the 383 I had lined up, but more is always gooder.

They're original manifolds, 69.5. They're just not painted, and when they're not in a completely-dressed engine bay it's a lot more noticeable. Yes, they all look like that... typical quality control for the day. I think a lot of the show cars you see have had the castings cleaned up, though. I'm not going to attempt to hide the MPFI; it's essentially impossible to do that if I want it to work well. Besides, any additional trickery needed to install these monstrosities would not be enjoyable. They don't exactly fall into place... the second manifold has to be turned almost 90° to go through the one installed first. I can only imagine how much fun it's gonna be under a hood.

Anyhow, what's on the stand in that picture represents just a scosche over $1,000 invested, including the $300 to buy the 440. Both throttle bodies are brand new--I bought 'em on sale--and I bought the HP exhaust manifolds at the Jefferson swap (68R/T still has the driver's side, which he's graciously repairing for me). The valve covers were an eBay find, but I may have to abandon those. The longrams sit right on them, and I'm not sure the fins can be ground down enough for adequate clearance. We shall see.

I have no intention of building some wild, solid-cammed stroker behemoth out of this. I'm just going to do a mild 9:1 pump-gas build with a potato cam and the HP exhaust manifolds and call it good. With a 4-speed behind it and some mid-3-series gears it should be a pretty fun cruiser, and short of a Hemi this has about the biggest-ever "Wow!" factor with the hood open. Six Pack guys be like, "Daaayummm!" :D

I remember a long time ago at the local Chryco dealership at home, some fella was arguing with a couple of dealership employees ( at the time I thought they were parts counter guys) about his ram-inducted big block. The dealership guys were arguing that Chrysler never installed such a thing, that what he had was aftermarket.
The car owner - I think it was a 300 letter car - was obviously getting pretty pissed off at their stupidity.
I didn't look too much at the car: when I spotted what was under the hood I was awestruck.

i figured the factory casting just looked like shit but i had to wonder lol

certainly hiding the efi to a point should be easy..i mean your just talkin injectors and lines..no biggy..toss on some "period" of some kind air cleaners..prefferably something with some depth and i think youd pretty well have it hiden

what valve covers are they?...the fins dont quite look like cal's......if it was me..id take stock covers slip them on and then do the clay trick to see exactly how much clearance you have...then you can use it as a point of referance for the aluminum to see if its even a possibility before you start carving....but hell even if you had to butcher off all the fin work..if they cleared youd still have a SOLID cover that wont leak

I'm doing MPFI. The injectors will be in the runners right next to the heads, about two feet away from their respective throttle bodies. They also need to be fed by fuel rails. No hiding any of that stuff without hiding the entire setup. I'll paint the rails and the intakes the same color just for aesthetics, but the modifications will still be obvious and hard to reverse. The purists are gonna freak when they see big-ass injector bosses cut into those intake runners. I plan to use air cleaners about 9-10" in diameter, offset as original, to get as close to a factory look as I can. Reproduction air cleaners for these things are about $350 each; originals are made of unobtainium.

Kind of like this pic of the hotrod with EFI and twin turbos...but I'm sure your fuel rail set-up will be a tad more professional. ;)

Yeah, I saw when you posted that. It looks like a 12-year-old had a hand in the plumbing and design of that system. Either that, or it's been around since the days of bolt-in, threaded-top injectors. It's a sad example of what should be a pretty awesome-looking setup. I'm planning on running pico injectors, which are only 1.88" long overall, angled more toward the intake valve. That should give me adequate clearance for a proper rail setup.

I would push my grandmother down a flight of stairs for some long ram intakes.. They look like sex happened all over the engine bay.. Mmmm.. Engineering porn...

I remember reading about this setup when they were first testing/marketing it. I never did see the sanity of feeding 16 barrels into 8 cylinders.
