Scott Kauffman is one of those rare guys that can use his vehicle as a verb. Not everybody can pull that off.

“Hey Hon, I’m just gonna Mustang down the store, do we need any milk?” or “Let’s Super 88 over to Bob’s house tonight,” just doesn’t work. But when you own a super-groovy, all-original, rolling motel room ’70s van like Kauffman does, you can speak your own language.

“Back in the ’70s, vanning was huge!” says Kauffman, a resident of York, Pa. “There were van clubs all over, especially in the Northeast where we live. There were van shows every weekend. There were four or five magazines that were all about the custom van hobby… People went camping and went to lots of shows. It was a really big thing.

“And vanning has never stopped, it’s just a lot smaller than it was back then.”

Kauffman was a child of the ’70s, so he grew up with his share of customized vans, most of them serving as daily transportation and weekend vacation machines long before minivans and SUVs took over. He dabbled with a variety of collector vehicles over the years and had some fun with a 1977 Chevrolet “shorty” custom van for a while, but nothing like the dazzling “Emerald Express” 1974 Chevrolet custom van that he discovered last year.

The link is messed up. You have to delete the [Read More from the end of it.

Back windows and side glass... this is no Jestermobile!

That thing is badass. My pops had a 72 and it was fun...but nowhere near as awesome as that thing. I'd love to roll onto campus with that beast! :D

There used to be a '78 Camaro running around town with a '73 nose on it that was candy-apple red over gold with a lot of lace pattern like that in the red, letting the gold shine through. It probably had a million coats of clear on it. Lots of hard work went into that thing, but everyone called it "The Wallpaper Camaro". :D

I think he eventually crashed it, but I'm not sure. He sure was a moron, though. He drove around the building at Burger King one night, apparently didn't notice the squad car waiting in line at the drive-through, and did a hideous John-Force burnout as he turned the corner, maybe 20' from the cop car and still in sight of it. They got him less than 100' from the building, and lined up a display of liquor bottles on the roof that would make a tavern owner proud. He tells the story in a different manner, to which I always say, "Dude, we were all standing there and watched it happen." :D :D :D

The "Wallpapercamaro" got sold to a kid I went to school with. He was a year or two behind me and I can't remember his name for the life of me. I do remember not liking his cocky aditude and I crushed him infront of his friends when he was braging up that thing. He said somtnig about it being 100% rust free and rare. I walked up to the drivers rear and yanked a under coated duct-taped wheelwell out and handid it to him and walked away. I have no idea who or why my car got keyed. :D

Yah. He bought it from Clint Peterson. I wish I could remember his name.

I never once saw that car after Greer had it, and I think I had either the T/A or the Charger that night at Burger King. That would've been around '91-'92.

That kid was a year or two younger than me. I yanked the tape out of the wheel well at a party one night and that was after I had graduated. I don't remember seeing that thing after I did that. I'll ask CMF if he remembers who had that car. Olson was a year behind me and Kelly was a year behind him so chances are he will remember who had it. He might know what happened to it.

I think the kids name was Terry Carter. The more I think about it the car had some mismatched front end parts on it when he had it too. He was talking about restoring it when I handed him the duct tape inner fender. I havent seen it since.
