after sticking my hand a half mile up the rear wheel wells..im 99% positive the rear windows bottom out on the wheel wells
as far as mods go theres very very little id do to it..
i HATE the door locks...there NOT smooth and they dont flow with the car at all..id run something from the 50's if possible..even the ones from my 58 ford if they wernt weak ..one look at them and you will see what i mean
see about stuffing the bumpers a little bit...it would clean up the lines and "un-bumper car" it quite a bit
disc brakes and or atleast an updated "dual" chamber master cyl
the BIG one to me is the fill cap....its in a shitty location body wise...it just hangs out there saying look at how out of place and un refind i am...even moving it into the trunk would be an improvement LOL
as far as work goes.
it doesnt need floors..it just needs very very minor patching..to be honest it just needs rust proofing ...the floors are so solid that i hate to say it but id rust proof it and likely use a lil seam sealer on the holes..its really that minor...unless you find more whire wheeling prepping to rust proof....
new seals thru-out tho the door seals are actualy still sealing it oddly enuf...the welting is the same stuff used on my 58 ford..and the whisker seals look to be very similar to my ford as well..have a look at mac's for stuff
outside of the passenger fender the body is almost flawlessly straight..theres 1 small dent in the rear fender that could likely be pounded out with my hand er fist
youve got the motor and trans covered
needs a couple peices of glass but its all flat EXCEPT the rear window
the trim needs polishing but i dont see any dings or scratches..infact the bumpers and grill look briliant
im not sure what your doing with the wireing and the i can only asume 6v system...if it is 6v and your leaving it that way(which i would unless you replace all the CLOTH wireing)ive got some links and tricks to getting the lights or atleast the headlights brighter..even running the stock genny....personaly i like the older feel tho with the headlights dimming down at idle due to the genny
wide whites are a must imo..but you may want to go wider as wider is actualy a little cheeper from the digging ive been doing on the subject but to go wider your going to have to figure out some back spacing ..plenty of room BEHIND the wheels but the body to wheel face not so much
alot of the interior plaxi knobs are either trashed or broken..those intact look beat but rubbing your fingers over them brings them back to life
brake lines and fuel lines.."maybe"..youd actualy be suprised..i know 10 year differance but the lines on my 58 look as good as the day the car was made..and this soto looks to be in about the same or better condition
a re-spray and rust proof is in order
interior..its hammered
thats basicaly it.....i dont see anything out of place or wrong with it anywhere...its in flat out AMAZING condition...id likely inspect the brakes dial em in drop your tank check it out then put your motor/trans in it a seat cover and enjoy it for the rest of the summer
Well 69 as usual we think both seem to think along the same lines.
I appreciate your assessment of the car 69. The seller was very open and forth coming about the car, and I was quite comfortable buying it site unseen. But it's always nice to hear that there was no hidden issues.
I have new rubber brake lines, and wheel cylinder, and master cylinder, rebuild kits. I might not get the wide whites on it right away since I have to get it through Gov't inspection first before I can register it, so cash will have to be spent on that first.
I can get all new glass, everything except the rear glass, for about $500, I talked to a local shop and they can't cut me glass for that price. This company specializes in vintage flat glass for all makes and models.
Since the Desoto, Chrysler and Dodge of this era are all basically the same car, and their little brother the Plymouth, there is a surprising amount of parts available for these cars. And since they are not overly popular you can still get a lot of NOS pieces for decent prices.
These 2dr sedans were rare to start with, and I had a time finding any decent ones for sale. When the seller contacted me with this car, and I saw the pics and got the info, I knew from the start that it was the "one".
