It reminds me of the 8' piece of flexible conduit hanging in my basement with an unmounted 4-gang outlet box on the end of it. It's sort of like a permanent, very durable extension cord. My friend saw it the other night, laughed and said "I have the same thing in my basement. Apparently that was a thing."
