by sealing the 2X4 edelbrock carbs with a air box to the factory height max wedge hood scoop on the 63 savoy. had this high speed miss that was killing my et's and 60' times. replaced the MSD 6AL, dizzy cap, rotor and wires and still had the skip. engine was nosing over between 5800-6000 RPM and could not figure why. was guessing valve float at this time. well, as a last resort I removed the carb air pan and the difference was night/day. car picked up 3 tenths and 3 MPH and pulled strong all the way through 7000 rpm. the factory max wedge scoop does not get enough air to the carbs and I was starving the engine. the car needs a 4" -6" scoop to get any benefit. the stroker motors I'm guessing are more susceptible as they move alot more air than a standard engine, especially the low deck stroker series as they use a huge bore, 4.375" or more, and a long arm crank.

I'd be more apt to believe it was shoving too much air down the carbs causing a lean out, which would explain the high speed miss, But doesn't explain the poor 60's. What did the plugs read?

plugs were dark and sooty, rich big time. after removing the air pan, plugs cleaned up and look good. not enough air for sure. 60's went from 1.70's to 1.54's
