Bogged down & bummin'...

*sigh*

Just venting a little... I finally got a little time to work in the garage the last couple of days, but alas--it's colder than necessary out there, and I'm so broke I can't swing fuel for the garage furnace. Funny how full-time employment leaves me far more broke than being unemployed did--even after the unemployment compensation ran oot... but I digress: I'd like to get out there and do some major cleaning and arranging, as well as getting back into working on the car I haven't touched since June. There's much to do that doesn't require cash outlay, but it's just too f'ing cold out there.

Additionally, due to an emergency furnace repair I had to make last night (not my furnace, thank God) I finally broke out and set up my new welder. So now I'm anxious to go weld a few things, like my 4-speed floor tunnel, frame connectors and such, but I'm not gonna freeze my booty off to do it. [smilie=e:

Anyone want to foot the bill for 100 gallons of #2 fuel oil?

*goes outside with two cans of hairspray and shoots CFCs at ozone layer*

*Sits down on frozen bench beside Jass.*

I'm in the same lane, brother. Except, I need the furnace, too.

What kind of heater are you talking aboot? The only ones I've used are only sufficient as supplemental heat...

Electric heat is too expensive up here.

*looks out window towards Niagara Falls where one of the world's largest hydroelectric generating facilities is and wonders if he can "tap" in*

I'm really looking at a Hot-Dawg from Modine, but there are no dealers around here.

I'm waiting to speak to my wife's boss' husband (on the mother’s side, twice removed). He's in the HVAC biz and does workshop and garage heaters, too.

Of course, I'd have to go clean up a bit for him to get in and install it.

It's a vicious circle.
Clean up to make room for the parts.
Move the parts to make room for shelving.
Get halfway done and leave it.
Move everything to make room for heater install.
Put it all back where it was in the first place.

Electric furnaces are available but as mentioned, expensive to run. You've got the best deal in your garage right now. Waste oil would be even cheaper but your neighbours would hate you :D

Speaking of neighbors whatever happened to the Boozefighters [smilie=a: [smilie=a: [smilie=a: and Tommy Tuner [smilie=e: ?

A) I already hate them, so reciprocation is expected.
B) Ever price a waste-oil burner?
C) I don't drive, so I'd run out of waste oil in a hurry anyhow. :D

Boozefighters are still there, though one moved out. Tommy Tuner doesn't appear to have the car at his house anymore... [smilie=e:

Lots of plans on the net for building your own waste oil furnace..

I've been contemplating that, but I have no room to build the darn thing.
And whatever I do get in there really has to hang from the ceiling. I don't think these DIY plans really allow for that.

Apparently, done right, they give off no smoke and don't really smell.

You want a link? Ummmm. be right back...

yuk.... hope you never spring a leak- cause you'll slid around that shop like a cook at Harvey's!!!! lol

gonna make ya cry- mine's got natural gas heat- oooo nice and toasty!!!!! [smilie=e:

But it costs me about $100.00 a month extra(it's not a very efficent one) but sure beats the old wood air tight one years ago!!!!

My garage's oil furnace will run for at least 4 weeks on about 20 gallons of fuel oil or good ol' diesel... that's what, $40?

No cryin' here! :D

Got gas heat in the garage as well - overhead unit heater. I keep it just above freezing when I'm not out there, so it does not cost all that much extra.

I'm bogged down as well - but in my case it's because I am feelin' lazy.

Get a wood buring stove lol. I like how in some magazine adds they show the corn buring stove and how much it can safe you by buring corn bundles. But then you look at the price and the stove is 3k+ [smilie=2: .

My house ran out of oil the other day so I had to go to Hess and get 15 gallons of diesel. It was either that or steal some from the green house tanks but thats to much like work.
