iis there any real benifit from takeing sheetmetel to bare vs sanding it all down real good and just shooting epoxy primer over a clean surface?...i say epoxy primer caus during sanding you know your going to be doing some filler and you know your going to have bare steel in places its a given...or is the epoxy primer not needed for such a task?

As long as the substrates are still bonded to the metal you can leave them. Keep in mind that you run the risk of lifting or a reaction when you overcoat if you dont use a catalyzed sealer. Keeping your coats semi dry helps. The last overall refinish I did was on a ford pickup last summer and it fought me some on the final topcoats because I got too thick and wet on a spot on the hood. I ended up force drying that area with a hand held propane torch and fogging it in lightly before I shot the clear. Martin Senour crossfire system suks at best and thats what I was using.

Yeah these days you cant spray two stage over single stage..get the bubble up ya know.. No dents or rust to deal with you can top the single stage with self etching primer, when you block it just dont go all the way through. basicly would be spraying over the primer/sealer and not the single stage of yesturday.

well the thing is i realy dont know what this paint is on the lloyd...the yellow top coat is VERY thin the primer under it is rather thick...just wanted to know if i was looking for trouble by not going to bare

so definatly epoxy the whole thing...check
going single stage as this is a low $ operation and i have leftover paint

Have you bought any self etching primer lately? 100 buks a quart last time I got some.:naughty:

i just so happen to have 1 quart of "house of kolors" and the shop i goto has the best prices around i dunno if there over stocked with it or something but it was only like 45$ a quart
