well ive never realy liked boats course i dont hate em either....i just sink like a lead weight..rocks float better than i do....yes i can swim but i pissed off my swim instructor cause by the time id get to the half way point in the pool id be scrapeing bottom
anyway the neighbor has a 98? bayliner..its a some what small boat being no bigger than a minivan in length..with an inboard mercruiser 4.3 v6(GM)..ive been doing a lil work on it here and there...last week he had it out on the lake and had starter problems......well the ring gear was toast as well ast the starter...."new" parts 300-400 for a new flywheel and 300 for a starter PLUS shipping......i sent him to a local machinist that i deal with alot and he got a new ring gear pressed and welded on for 80$ and got a new starter for like 180........you wouldnt belive what a boat place charges for a swap out of the ring gear..900-1500$ just in labor.....damn most of us are in the wrong field....sure ya gotta pull the motor out(4 bolts a 1 plug wireing harness 1 coolant hose and the PS pump or lines)....for 2 days work mostly spent waiting on parts i got myself 400$ and netted some more work makeing a improved battery compartment with the batterys stacked as someone set it up for dual batts but there wasnt realy safe room for em as they were...figureing another 100$ for a lil weld n fab work
