ballpark figure for a '70 SE?

i might be able to snag a 1970 Challenger SE with 383/4, slapstick, black leather, a/c, lemon twist/black. it is a southern NM car so its rust free but needs a repaint and interior at the least. what sort of ballpark is a car like that in? i messed up a few years back and promised my son the '71 Challenger so im not intending to flip it but to replace my current car with another a/c car. any one have experience appraising cars? thanks for any info.

Instinct tells me about 8 to 10K, but it's a big-block 4-speed - that could add a bit in the right market conditions (greedy seller and/or anxious impulsive buyer).

There's my 2 cents, but wait until the experts chime in...

It's not a 4-speed if it has a slapstick ...

I'd go out with a pocket full of the most I'd pay. Then I'd start talking at the point of what I'd like to pay.

If the owner has done any research, it's going to be priced higher than what you hope to pay for it. [smilie=a:

the SE was a nice model in 70,with the little back window, yellow is desireable by some folks, but is an impact color,so helps, rustfree is the major selling point, and complete driveline,if #'s matching,it's not a cuda but the next best thing if you like E body's,,I'd say $65-7500,is good,by the time you do the "unseen" body repairs and paint it in a good system,do the interior and rebuild the driveline,,and all the other little stuff, anything over $7500 will create a money pit, that will exceed the car's restored value.....and that's factoring into account that all the work would be done in my own shop, except interior seat covering(we all run fast,,, when we hear the words,"can you put the cover's on my seats")

What is the deal with interior work? Why is everyone so reticent to handle it? (me included)

well,it sucks basically, and those seat covers from legendary just don't slip on there and look pretty by themselves,I'll do my own headliner's,and wiring is fine, just hate carpet and upholstery, some guy's like that and do it for a living,me,I'll stick to building the body's and painting them for a living.

The SEs have that molded headliner and no one makes repos for them. So if its toast, you are on your own in that department. I had 2 '70 SEs when they were just cars and loved looking at the rear window from outside the car. Inside trying to use it was pretty miserable.
But I had a T7, black gut 440/727/3.55 that i'd dearly love to get back.

A guy showed me one of those the other day, stored in his basement waiting to go into his R-code [smilie=e:

thanks for all the replies. i think the headliner is in pretty good shape. i have no real interest in restoring a car, i prefer to restify them with some modern technology thrown in like brakes and such so i would not get the car to do a true restoration on it.
