B1's won't fit in 67 R/T

My customer tells me that after I lowered his engine so he could run his old Indy combo under his stock hood that his new B1's and his big $$$$ custom headers will not fit...
The engine is too low and the headers hit the inner fenders :eek: (the only way it would fit was with the front of the engine way up in the air...no way to get the stock hood to fit)
I haven't seen the headers in the car yet but it doesn't sound very good...
He sold his old indy stuff and we already have the custom JE's for the B1's :( Me thinks this is going to end badly for me...
I had nothing to do with his B1 project...he asked me if it would fit and I said with the low deck it should but you had better mock it up first...
My rear end is starting to pucker :bwuhaha:
 
ROB , what are JEs ? i take it B1s are heads :huh: what the diff with a low deck ? the most that could be milled is .080 thous , RIGHT ? would that drop the headers that much ?:huh:

didnt we figure my 440 was milled around .060 thous or something like that ? and i presume the 516s are milled a bit , so will i have header isuues or should it be fine ?

So, you made it so his Indy stuff would fit and now that he wants to swap that stuff out for something different, it's your problem?

You suggested that he mock things up. That'd be a good thing to do before spending spendy dollars on custom headers and such.

Besides..... how custom is custom if they don't fit? :hmmm:
I mean, if they were custom to the application wouldn't they check for clearance and build them to suit?
 
Keywords...mock it up first. I take it his custom headers were for the old stuff? Regardless, what he'll probably need to do is get a good exhaust shop to modify the headers to make them fit.
 
I had to go back & read your post to make sure, but it looks as though you're in the clear. I don't really see how you can be held accountable for someone else's moment of non-brilliance.
 
The problem is I said it SHOULD fit being a lowdeck...it does have less width than than an RB with the same heads...:rolleyes:
These were NEW headers bought from some B1 guru...he called him and of corse he says "I've sold X number of those headers and no one has ever complained...they fit no problem" :rolleyes:
So who going to catch the heat ??? the guy whos 2500 miles away...I think not...
I deal with this crap all the time...all I ever hear is " I read it on the internet...or I asked on all the boards and EVERYONE said it would work"
I think I'm going to let him use a set of Iron 440-1's that I have been sitting on (360+ cc intake runner) until his KB block comes in and he can get a real set of custom (built for HIS car) headers made...
I have a new set of 15cc dome ultra light custom JE's pistons for an Indy head that I can sell him "at dead nuts cost :rolleyes: " just to move this little project out the door and out of my hair...
so hopefully we'll be back on track if he goes for it...because that's all I'm willing to do...it's not even my fault :(
 
Ooooohhhhhh, I've been there. Betcha he says "But YOU said they'd fit".

reminds me of why I quit working on other peoples cars. Sound like you are bending over backwards. Sounds like a he needed to mod the hood..
Have I ever said I HATE headers.... It is a real love hate thing with be..

Randy...your going to be fine with headers on your GTX...

this 67 R/T has modified stock motor mounts so the engine sits just over a inch lower than stock...he want to keep the stock look of the car but wants 800 ft lbs and hp at the rear wheels ...that's why it's got a 16to1 cr.
he want's it to be like my GTX...look stock and go like stink
