Well, hello fellow 'Nuts. Some months back, you will recall that I posted about a '68 Satellite that my hubby was to install a crate motor into. We picked up the engine (for the owner) from Foggy, who had won it at Moparfest last year. So, over the course of the past few months, Mike has encountered more than a few problems with this project, and it has now been (affectionately?) named "The Car From Hell", or, alternately, "Christine". First off, the so-called "installation manual" that came with the engine, doesn't really lend itself to installing this engine in an older car, and doesn't address some of the problems that were encountered. Also, there were several problems with the car itself that had to be remedied.........the brakes were completely redone, including new lines front to back, complete new exhaust system, incuding electric "dumps" that the owner purchased and wanted installed, and there was a weird problem with the shifter (auto, column) which meant Mike had to remove the steering column and take it apart to fix.
Well, some 7 mths later, this project IS FINALLY DONE!!!!! Mike is very pleased with how it came out, the engine runs like a top, and, after a few check out passes up and down our road, in Mike's own words, "it's a WEAPON!!" (In a good way. :giggedy
So, the owner will be picking it up Saturday night, and, needless to say, he's VERY excited. I hope he doesn't get too excited.....he's in his 60s!!!! I, for one, can't wait to see it's taillights going out the driveway, cuz right away my Valiant has to come over to that side of the garage to have the tranny pulled.........the clutch is finally toast, and we're leaving for Carlisle on July 8th. We are trailering it down, but will be driving it around down there.
Anyway, here are a few shots of the Satellite and said crate engine. :bravo:
