I found the perfect fuel pump to feed 71ChargerRT's prehistoric ThermoQuad! It's out of my '81 Imperial parts car! I've known about this car since 2001. It was in a junkyard way back then. It's had a full tank of fuel the whole time, which I just found out yesterday. This is the worst-case scenario of turpentine/varnish smell I've ever encountered and, well, the pictures speak for themselves beyond that. :doh: The stench of this stuff is unbearable. I'd rather take a bath in burnt 80W-90, with hypoid additive.

No, the float arm doesn't move. Don't be silly. :D

Now that it's had time to dry out, yes--all that fuzzy stuff is rust. I'm really hoping I can at least save the pump hanger since it would really ease my EFI conversion since the pump sits sideways.
 
Strain the gas and save it for the lawnmower. They seem to run on anything. :toot:
 
actualy..save it as parts cleaner.....im joking in the slightest..it will strip not only every bit of oil, dirt, grime..but the paint as well..over night..anything it doesnt strip will brush off easy

There's an interesting story behind my comment. About 12 - 15 years ago I was mowing my lawn towards the evening and the mosquitoes were eating me up. I got thinking, maybe if I could get the mower to smoke it would get rid of them. The mower had a 1 quart gas tank, so I dumped in about 1/2 cup of drain oil. Not enough smoke, so in went another half cup. Still hardly any smoke. Now I'm not only pissed about the insects, but also at the mower. I got about a cup of diesel fuel and added that. The mower still never missed a beat and hardly left any smoke. Now I'm really desperate, so I dumped in a quarter cup of 2-stroke oil. Now I'm getting a little smoke, but nowhere near enough to get rid of the vampire insects. :mad:

The next day I was telling my brother about my endeavor and his only comment was, "You may be on to something" :bwuhaha:

You're more than welcome to it. There's no way in hell I could work with this stuff. It causes almost instant intense headaches. Good fuel vapors cause headaches eventually, but this stuff is acts much more quickly, and as I said, the smell is so offensive I can't stand to be around it.

68R/T, when I transferred it into the cans, it went through two filters on the pickup side of the pump and still didn't come out the other end looking very promising. Add to that the fact that it's now in used paint thinner cans and I wouldn't pour it into anything with small metering orifices. There was paint and primer residue in the bottoms of the cans--lots of solids in it all over again.

This stuff is good only for arson. Bonfires are, by definition, arson. :D
 
I don't need any soil sterilized. I guess I could write "GET OUT" in the Boozefighters' lawn, though... :D
 
Run it through a still. Age it in oak barrels.
Call it small batch hooch.
Tell hipsters it's not cool. You'll sell it all.
 
I'll toss it in the parts washer and knock off the loose shit first. :D

Five days and a couple of rain storms later, and I still can't stand being within 10 feet of that thing. Stretch was at the house on Thursday evening, and even though everything's cleaned up and the fuel is in sealed cans, he commented, "Holy shit your yard stinks! Wow!" :doh:
 
On the bright side, I gave the fuel pump a nice shower with the pressure washer yesterday, and it's a lot less frightening now. The float arm moves but the sender reads in megaohms so I'm gonna go with "That's Shot" for $400, Alex. I'm sure the pump is smoked and the wiring is even suspect, but the frame is there and solid and yes, that's a standard-dimension in-tank pump. I just have to figure out a pickup arrangement since the original dissolved. Yes, Matilida, that's a 3/8" output fuel line that matches up to the same-size line all the way to the firewall. :dance: I really don't think that's going to be enough to feed the engine at full power, but it's a start.

I also pressure washed the inside of the fuel tank, but I didn't get pictures of what emerged when I drained it. It was like the most foul-smelling red clay on Earth. Suffice to say, I won't likely have to mow that section of the yard. Ever. :doh:
