The only thing I've had trouble with is the the DVD burner.
Windows just does not want to write to it. Even the DVD maker program that comes with vista doesn't want to see the drives as burners.
I had another program that I bought that works just fine. So, I'm not unable to burn discs. I just can't do it from within Windows Explorer of the Movie/DVD maker software that comes with vista.
There's some neat DVD menus in Windows DVD Maker. That's all I really wanted to use. I looked at trying to hack the menus out of the program - easy to get the content but then I don't know what to do with it in order to build my own menus to burn with my regular burning program.
That is the burning question for me.
The burner that I have came with the system and is listed as compatible with Vista. But I also yanked a drive out of my old computer - also listed as compatible - and these programs don't see it either.
Windows DVD maker was just patched last week, but I still can't use it....
Edit: It was Movie Maker that was patched not DVD Maker....
I cant get the POS to accept the CD driver for his WIFI usb adapter and both compaq and Qwest claim it's the other guys problem.
I think I'll just return both the computer and the network wifi modem to each of the arseholes and find something else
But if you cant use the cd supplied and cant get to the net how do you fix it?.
Should I bring his computer to my connection downstairs and try to update from there?
From what I can gather, vista is best used when you feel that either system performance or compatibility is excessive. That is, if you feel that your system performs too well with some other operating system, and/or you feel that device driver glitches are missing from your life, then vista is for you. Able to swallow 2GB of memory and 2ghz dual core processors in a single bound, all while delivering mediocre performance...
At 9 years old I figured this would grow with him for a while but if it (the compaq) needs to go back AND the BS wifi setup from qwest I dont have a problem returning all of it.
I had a fucking towell head at qwest tell me its not there problem and a fucking russian tell me its not vistas problem today.............I'm not happy right now.
I should just get him a $4.95 a month dialup and forget about the rest of this crap.:doubt:
Ah! Download the new drivers - if they exist - using your computer.
Then save them on a floppy/burn them on a CD/or put them on a USB drive to bring them to the new PC.
There are some known issues with Vista recognizing the drives....
that's not my particular problem, but I have seen many references to it while searching out a solution.
LOL i got a tester friend or 2 at intel...vista is garbage..nothing more than a rescource hog with more bugs the win 95,98, me all wraped into one shiny POS
My laptop had vista on it. I tried it for about 10 minutes, just to see what vista looked like. It was slow, of course. Then I blew it away and put xp pro on there. When I ordered that computer I just factored in the presence of vista as a minor disadvantage that would require an immediate reformat-no biggie. I'd suggest you do the same.
The Windows hawks were all pushing us to move up to it at work. The two main IT gurus we have complain incessantly about its resource sucking habits and refuse to move on it.
We run some third party software that taxes almost any machine to its limits, and they don't want to dump another leech on top of the others.
Get this crap, I call Qwest today and they inform me that they can only come out and install the modem only, not the USB adapter they sold me..............Yes, it's all in the box to be returned
