Just a short message to introduce myself, my name is Tom and I'm the proud owner of a 79 D100 pu that I bought new. I have made a lot of changes since then and look forward to making some more with some insight from the Mopar nuts on this sight.

Welcome to the site Tom. An original owner of a 79 D100...VERY COOL!!! Share some pics and info about your truck when you can....I know I'm not the only one who would love to see, and hear about it.

This is the latest picture I have of the truck from 2000. I lowered it with custom built control arms up front and built different spring hangers for the rear. Red paint is a custom mix based on a Chrysler factory color. Billet Specialties wheels with 235/70 X 15 front and 315/55 X 16 rear. May need to change the wheels this coming year due to the fact that the rear tire size is no longer manufactured. Mopar Muscle did a nice article on it in 2000. Nice looking truck, Tom! Welcome aboard! 315/55 is definitely an odd tire size; The rear tires I have are 255/55R-16, and I'm pretty sure they're the only set I'll have. 15s and 16s are getting harder to find in "non-truck" profiles. It really sucks.

I really like the look of that.
Noticeably custom, but refined and classy. It just looks different without hitting you over the head with the changes.
Very nice.

Very nice looking truck. I like the work that was done to it. As stated, not over the top...very classy look!

I know what you mean about your rear skins. Biggest 69 and I could dig up were a pair of 295/60/15 BFG's with RWL for the '67 Barracuda. Still gives it a mean look, especially with the stance. ;)

Yep, The tire manufactures are killing 14" and 15" tires 1 by 1. "You dont want them. You want 18's 20's and bigger!" Stright from our Bridgestone rep.

They are killing those sizes off, though I don't see how-there are plenty of cars running 14's and 15's still on the road. Even little appliance-like stuff like my '95 geo prison and it's sister car, the corolla-there's a metric shit ton of cars like that still on the road.

16s are no picnic, either, unless you're driving a truck. When I bought my rear tires, I had chosen matching-tread front rubber in a 235/60R-16 size. A week after I got the rears, the front size went on backorder. That became national backorder, progressed to intergalactic backorder, and finally my money was refunded because that tire had been discontinued. I still don't have front rubber. I can get the size, but not the same manufacturer or tread pattern.

The manufactures are doing that because there is more money per tire to be made. I bet the margins on 20 and 22's is quite high compared to say a 15".

Well, I'm sure that's part of it but the simple fact is nothing really comes with those tire sizes anymore. It's a shame, too, because those rubber-band sidewall tires ride like ass, and really don't improve handling much if at all.
