It’s nearly impossible for an automaker tothrive without an SUV these days, resulting in BMW, Porsche, and, soon, Maserati SUVs. Now, the Giulia-based Alfa Romeo SUV is, according toAutomotive News Europe,ready fortesting.
CEO Sergio Marchionne said it would be Alfa Romeo’s second vehicles on the company’s newrear wheel drivearchitecture, and will be soldlatein 2016. It is likely to keep the midsize format of the Giulia, since that would require the least work while hitting the heart of the upscale-crossover market.
The new rear drive architecture is likely to be used by Dodge and, possibly, Jeep.Maserati may also replace its current Chrysler-based (but heavily modified)platform/architecture with the newer design.
