Over the Thanksgiving holiday Tam and I were visiting her family in MS. We brought the dirtbikes with us and ended up giving them to her kids as an early Christmas present. While I was there I got the mom and dad-in-law's ATV's running so they could ride with the kids. I also fixed their riding lawn mower while I was at it so I could cut siome of their yard back down. The weeds out there were taller than me.
While I was blazing a path out through the weeds in the field, I had to stop quickly before I hit something I just spotted ahead of me. Upon closer inspection, it was a 16' bass boat the in-laws had left out in the yard. They had parked it there (in 1999) and just never used got around to putting it back in the water. The yard just took it over and it was forgotten. When I found it I mowed around it and cleared a path so I could get the truck to it to pull it out. After a little tug from the diesel, it came out from it's long term resting place, flat tires and all. I moved it over to a corner of the yard I had already mowed and proceded to pull the briars and vines off of and out of it. When the in-laws looked at the boat, they asked us if we wanted to take it with us back to Texas. It was running fine when it was put up (had a major overhaul in 1999) but after 8 years of sitting, it's going to need some TLC to make it seaworthy again. I figured we could give it a shot so I got some new trailer tires and a trailer light kit. I lubed the axel bearings and added six extra tie-downs to make sure it stayed on the trailer for the trip back. The 12 hour return trip went without incident and I've started to clean out the old trash and rotted carpet. It looks fairly solid but the center of the floor may need to be reworked due to wood rot. I'm going to give the engine a spark and compression test (after lubing the cylinders of course) to see where it stands. Anyway, that's enough babbling from me. here's the pics...
