I guess they caught the graffiti kids that hit my neighbors fence and stucko shop.

Little bastards, took them about 10 mintues to chase and catch the little shits.

One of them threw a backpack into a back yard while the cops were chasing them and it had the same gold and black paint thats on the wall and fence.

They are just swarming my block and up and down my back alley.

The graffiti is about 60' from my back yard on the other side of the alley right on the side of a huge shop.

Kinda neat, I could see most of it and had play by play comentary. :D

lol bet thats fun...but i thought the use of a police scaners was "offlimits"

At least in the US, there it's legal to run a receiver on any frequency. Only transmitting is regulated. The only exception to this I can think of is a couple of heavyhanded states have succeeded in banning radar detectors. Virginia is one (of course), and I can't remember the other. I'm guessing even that would probably fail if a serious legal challenge was brought.

Does Canada not have a similar provision written into law, that anyone can receive any frequency as long as they don't misuse whatever information they may gain from that?

Virginia and DC are the only places with a full ban on detectors, but ( and there is always a but) they are also illegal for use in all commercial vehicles in all 50 states.

detectors are illegal here in Ontario.

Scanners? I've heard that there was some sort of law - but they keep selling them and I don't think they do much to enforce the law if it exists..

From what I've read and heard from others out here it's legal to own and use provided your not blabbing personal info all over the place.

I think it's also legal to have one in your car too.

You do need a license to own and operate a hand held scanner, that I do know.

The RCMP even have a code for a scanner user without a license. A 10-62 is an unauthorized listener. :D
