OK so its a simple task right, replace the no-parking wiper motor on my '78 with one that parks. Easy swap right? HELL NO!
Taking it off wasnt the biggest deal, pulled the fender brace off, took the cowl grille off, reached in there, loosened the nut and pulled the link off. Pulled wires and the mounting nuts.
First deal came when I broke the big bushing (2-spd only part and used on certain cars only) Phock! Lets go to town, nope, none of the parts houses have it or can get it. Wont even look it up! Shiznit! Lets go rob one off my '77 Demo car. Requires taking the whole linkage off so I dont destory the bushing (used the main rod from the '77).
Take the linkage off my '78, that was hard. THEN I had to put it back in, that was harder trying to orient both shafts attached to both arms. FINALLY got it after 15-20 minutes of swearing.
Lets roll on, this is getting easy, right? WRONG! First deal came when I found out the '88 5th Ave motor wouldnt work because its centered as opposed to off to the side like the original. Phocking SOB! Easy fix, lets go take the one off my '78 Aspen. It was delay and I want delays something fierce on this car since I have the stuff to put em on.
Bolt that on and that will work, right? NOT A CHANCE IN HE**! PHOCKING SOB again! Shaft was different and I had to find out after fighting to get the link back onto the motor.
Keep in mind there is NO room to get your hand between the glass and hood. NONE, so you are working blind or not working at all. It sucks to say the least.
And you know what else pisses me off? I have ALL these freaking cars and NOT ONE has a useable motor. They either are
A. a No-parking SOB or dont work at all
B. 3-speed setup
C. Late model that dont work

So anyway, resort to putting the old one back on, should be easy, right again? NOPE NOT A CHANCE IN HELL! Damn link fought me EVERY step of the way. FINALLY figured out to get a nut for the shaft with a washer on it and use that to get it on. Remember working blind and by feel? Thats what happend AGAIN! It literally took me an hour to do that one simple task at hand!
I think this smilie sums up my experiance changing a wiper motor in a late B-Body:

And yes, FWIW, I threw some things!
