a few pics for the wiring gurus

RUSTY Cuda

In over my head!
Well after diggin in a little I found some more dangling wires, see if any are recognizeable?
All near the distributer.
located the blue wires on the iginition resistor, they ran a new red wire off that terminal to that mysterious white "box" for the lack of a part name, traced the other side & I'm 99% sure it goes back to the negative side of the coil???
here's the danglers!

Here's the red wires on the white "box"
one comes directly off the blue terminal at the igi resister & the other goes to the negative side of the coil?
Diagram shows gray from the block & black/yellow to the igi control off the negative terminal of the coil?

Sounds like someone replaced the original dual-ballast resistor with a single ballast, but never removed the old one. [smilie=e:

I'll try the choke to that blue wire teminal on the orig resistor tomorrow it's at least still hot(i think, but now I have a meter that will read it to be sure), then trace the other wires that come off it, with a different distributor & coil in the car, I guess the wiring diagram isn't gonna match much? Or they're running them in series - the new resistor prolly came with the monster-sized coil you got there.

Does the car have aftermarket gauges in it? Those other two wires look like they might have come off sending units ...

The wiring diagram will help you figure out what those wires *should* be, it's up to you to figure out how to get them hooked up right again. :)

Got back a little while ago, I've got 2 hoods, one good with a little body work & one with a rusted frame but decent skin, at worst I'll cut out the scoops & fill in tthe holes on the texas car! [smilie=e:
Ok, wiring, found the double plug was to the old distributer,so I jury rigged even more to at least get spades on most of the wires, got a meter from my ole man & am goin out now to fire her up & see what blows! [smilie=e:
To be continued! Rich.

Well the electric choke works, but now the battery's not charging, so either I messed something up(probably) or something else went bad or came loose??? will do a quick undo of what I did next time out & see if it charges, looked it over & don't think that should effect the other?
my mess, all the reds should be blue, the yellow also, just had to convert male to female cause they just slid a male into the top of the plug, was quite loose, I know it looks like hell but but all those wires are on the blue side which was jumped anyway? (it is TEMPORARY!) I hate messy wiring! [smilie=e: Rich.

Geeze, after all that , lookin at it now, all I had to do was split the blue jumper on the clip & tie it all in there!!
STEP back once in a while! [smilie=b: Rich.

Glad ya got it sorted out.

I know if I run into electrical problems, I'm just going to pack a case of beer and go to Collingwood...

Please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please please get rid of the wirenuts.

[smilie=d: Does the word temporary not register [smilie=e: Did a rig up to see if the choke would work, gotta hit the supply house for the proper fittings! (in the next few years!) [smilie=d: Rich.

[smilie=a: At least I didn't make the connection right next to my GLASS gas filter who's hoses run under the steering linkage [smilie=a:

got it around the block once today when I noticed the blinker was making the guage blip way to the negative side, parked it again & found the battery not charging, thats when I said enough for today, oh yea, that was after my compressor started shootin chunks out of the back of it, the air vane(fan) whatever they use self destructed!
So i won't be paintin or drivin for a while! [smilie=b: Rich.

Wire nuts - easy to tell you're more of an A/C kind of guy.

Don't know if I've ever seen those used on a car before. For temp connections I always just twisted the wires together and got them to stay where they don't touch any metal.

Best thing I ever did for mine, got a under hood harness from Evans when I put my FBO setup in.[smilie=b:

Yea Russ, that would be ideal, but even with a new harness some of it is gonna have to be adapted to the different parts(with different connectors) anyway, unless I take everything back to original mopar parts, which may be what I do to this one.
For now I'm just tryin to take a few short rides, have a little fun at the least amount of expense, the major money is still being force fed to the 73!
A little of stretche's "extreme sarcasm"
a wire nut may not be the ticket for a car, but I think it beats bare wires buy a tad! [smilie=e: Rich.

Hey Rusty, I have a 1973 Body Service Manual that your more than welcome to borrow! It has a section with wiring and electrical items that may help you.If interested PM me and I'll mail it out to you! [smilie=b:

Thanks 73, but I have the chrysler manuels & also got a chiltons from my bro in law, reading em is another thing???
Many chop chops on this car, so the books help, but the knowledge of the guys out there that have seen it all helps when the books can't! [smilie=e:
Plus it's easier to post than to study! [smilie=e: Rich.
