I'm looking at a clean '99 Ram 2500 SLT 4X4, it has a 5.9, unfortunately it's the bent 8 version with an automatic. I was curious about what I should look for on these trucks ie. diffs, trans, transfercase, etc. He wants $9k for it, and it has 97,700 miles here is the LINK What do ya'll think?

Thinkin' I may upgrade the motor to a Cummins in a few years. I really don't like the look of the newer trucks enough to spend that kind of cash

most of the driveline is pretty tough....look closely at the tranny, they were often abused and commonly pooched. The 5.9 is a pig on fuel, I pulled a happy 14 on the highway with 3:92 gears. :)

Yeah when I had my 1500 with the 5.9 I had 16-18 mpg on the highway, but that was when gas was cheap...$1.50/gal or so

I just drove it, it feels so much more solid than my 1500 did:giggedy: trans shifted very crisply[smilie=2: and the 4wd was quiet, and engaged smoothly. I'll hear back tomorrow :helpme:

:( Still lookin'... hopefully I'll find a Cummins, got my eye on a '99 3500 4X4 quad cab w/ a 24valve, that needs a little cosmetic work, and a '93 clubcab 4X4
