68 Newport input needed

Trying to find my weed and
Hey guys, I need some input on this. I went to look at a 68 Newport today thinking it may be a good candidate to give up it's power train for the Fury. Sure enough, it's got a 383/727 and an 8.75 rear. Understanding that all this would have to be redone/rebuilt, I'm wondering if the guys' $600 firm is a decent deal. The body is strait and pretty clean, the only damage being a fair dent in the drivers' fender. Frame and floors are in good shape except for the trunk pan (gone of course). Interior, trim, vinyl top trim, emblems, bumpers, grille, tail lights, doors, hood, deck, glass, suspension etc. all seems to be there and in really decent shape. Basically a complete, unmolested car that sat in a barn for several years. The dashpad isn't even cracked and the thumbwheel radio is a nice touch :)

I'm also wondering if anyone would want to take this car when I'm done pulling the powertrain (assuming I get it). Seems almost too good to just use as a parts car but there are a TON of quality parts even without the engine/trans/rear. Would even be a not too hard resto if you've got another drivetrain to put in it. It's also a 2 door car which is cooler still.

So, opinions on the $600? Anyone interested in it for parts or easy resto when I'm done?

is it that hard to find a unmolested 383 and 727?.......id feel bad hurting a 2dr for parts especialy if its a barn fresh and as nice as you say it is

I parted my 66 Fury, that had been prepped as a derby car, and made pretty good money on it's parts because there are no aftermarket parts available. If it were a 4 door I'd say go for it, but being a complete 2dr it might be worth keeping and restoring/rebuilding

The Newport is definitely worth saving, I just don't have the time and space. Needs a full resto but a good solid foundation.

Trying to find Mopar stuff around here is like trying to pull the eye teeth from a thrashing hippo with a cheap set of Chinese pliers. Living in a city that bills itself as the auto capital of Canada you'd think there'd be more around here since so many were built here. They cost big $$$'s too when I can find them.

I keep wanting to share my input to this thread but that would involve admitting to cutting up a 69 sport fury in 1988.. :(

<cut a 43k "survivor" 2dr 73 fury III...all i wanted was the 360 "factory" 4brl (1992)

i feel bad about it now

Just wish I could find someone nearby to go partners on this. Absolutely no way I can take on another project right now :(

yeah if closer, i'd help swap out all the stuff you want for the leavings. [darnell]Hell I might even throw in a few bux.[/darnell]
