307 Olds

307s weren't too bad - not as good as the 350 Olds, but not too bad.

Decent power, not too bad on gas and they lasted a fairly long time.

Buying a car?

had one in an old olds :D I think it was an 84 Olds 98. We used to load it up and smoke the one wheel peel all over town. :D

My pure stock racecar had a 307. The time i spent on the track, it lasted...then sold it to a guy, he went out on the track and it blew up in his face.

I personaly, am not impressed. If you get it, I'd change it out with a 350 chevy (i know, blasphamy on the mopar board), but they're plentiful, parts are cheap...and all that. But thats just me.

The 307 was alright, similar reliability to the 305 chev.

The 350 "Rocket" avoid like the plague! Quality like the 3.1L V6.

I would skip the bullshit and go right to a 455 and be done with it. :D

I've had good luck with a 3.1 in a LuminaAPV 243,000 miles when I sold it like an idiot!

Ive got one here, its in a fairly straight 2 dr mid 80s. Runs great but wont back up.

Huh?

I've never heard that.

Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure my ole buddy Harold's '71 Cutlass' Rocket 350 had like 8 million miles on it before they put it to sleep in the early '90's. I'm thinking the thing still ran, it was everything else that had fallen apart on the car...

Same thing with my parent's Cutlass they used to have. They weren't overly easy on it and before that, my grandpa wasn't either. Still ran fine when they sold it to my uncle. Before Dippy's comment, I had never heard a bad thing about the 350 Rocket.

I believe that GM used that block as the basis for their infamous 6.2 and 6.5 diesel engines. They must have figured the blocks were pretty stout.

I'm talking about thr '75 and up 350's, a buddy of mine is a huge Olds fan and he's been through about 6 of them and they were all junk.

Even the one in his Granmothers '76 Cutlass that only had 84,000 kms on it, it smoked and knocked and ticked somthing awfull.

There is a farmer north of me I bought a bunch of cars from and he has 3 Olds 88's, '79-'80-'81 he bought everyone new and none of them lasted more then 5 years.

I've never had any experiance with them I'm just repeating what I've heard. :)
