1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer - $23,900 - Bemus Point, NY - Grand Wagoneer by Classic Gentleman, internationally recognized as a leading buyer & seller of low mile excellent condition Grand Wagoneers, presents another heirloom.
Just 93,630 actual miles have accumulated on this stellar '87 which equals under 3,000 gentle miles per year. Carfax confirms those miles are original & no accidents have ever been reported. She has spent most of her life in the southern states of Kentucky & Florida. Her long term owner moved her from his Florida winter home back up to Washington State in his final years of ownership but all but a few thousand miles were rung up down south.
The splendid Charcoal Metallic exterior was freshly painted within the last year. Very few miles have been driven since that application. The wood siding and trim were likewise replaced at the same time and as you can see, look beautiful. This paint color & wood combination along with the Grand's classic angular lines broadcast a timeless & distinguished look. Even the whitewall tires you see are brand new with less than 50 miles on them. This Wagoneer isn't as brand new of course, nothing is but overall, superb shape.
The Cordovan interior, as the images also show, is in outstanding condition. This color is known to age well and the leather & fabric, refreshed where necessary, is all in splendid shape. The appointed power options are spinning nicely including, power seats, power windows (The back power window operates via dash mounted switch), power mirrors, power door locks & cruise control along with the most important air conditioning & heat. The original radio that was still in the dash at the time of the photo shoot is being replaced by a newly fitted AM/FM/CD stereo.
The mechanicals have been fully serviced and are just sitting on Go. The engine is performing strongly and the transmission runs through the gears smoothly. The 4 wheel drive High setting (Highway) is ready to perform if called upon. We do not service the 4 wheel Low setting (Mud bogging & trail use) as this feature has a tendency to freeze up over years of non use & most of our buyers would never use that feature anyway. The undercarriage is in about as good of condition as you are going to find. It is a reflection of the low total miles enjoyed along with southern state usage.
This is a distinguished low mile excellent condition example that we are proud to offer.
If you are woindering why buy from us, here is a reason. We offer great low mile Grand Wagoneers that you will be proud to own. Each Jeep is inspected by expert mechanics, with years of Wagoneer experience, and critical service and mechanical issues are addressed before the unit is offered for sale. We invest thousands in each Wagoneer –many of those dollars are spent on items that you cannot discern from simple pictures but are necessary to complete a properly operating Grand Wagoneer. That way you won’t have a host of unwanted surprises when your Jeep arrives. We carefully test drive each completed Jeep to insure that it performs as it should. And finally, we treat you fairly and honestly before and after the sale. Understanding of course these Wagoneers are twenty five plus years old and they are not perfect so we make every effort to present each one with accurate pictures and descriptions. We love these Wagoneers and we want you to to love yours too. Check out our recommendations page at Grand Wagoneer by Classic Gentleman for testimonials from customers from around the world.

Here's the thing: people that bought Grand Wagoneers weren't your typical Jeepers. Those things were flat-out expensive when new, and catered to a particular set of people just like El Caminos do (totally different bunch, though). I knew several owners of these wagons, and they were usually affluent, didn't own a CJ and in most cases never did, and almost to a soul were a meticulous lot. It's not even the same crew that were buying the lesser SJs. So, when you find a Grand Wagoneer, chances are it's almost guaranteed to be low-mile, well maintained, and in very nice shape. That's the rule, rather than the exception.

Car and Driver once referred to these as the staple vehicle of the "horsey set", meaning people with expensive horses rather than rodeo riders. They literally looked down their noses at those bourgeois Suburban owners who had back seats that were actually useful. Such commoners in their silly Chevrolets! Chrysler completely blew off a small-but-very-profitable marketing segment when they didn't offer a replacement or continually upgrading what they had (like an OD transmission, Magnum V8, etc). Think about it, really: the things were selling for nearly $40K near the end, with a cabureted engine (last US production vehicle so equipped) and running gear dating back to 1962! All the tooling was paid off decades previously, so they only had to build about 7 of 'em a year to maintain black ink on the page.

yeah..its very true..the exception to that is the j10/20s useualy beaten and worked to DEATH..that and 2dr waggys..?comanche?"

i know of many still used today..all owned by ppl i would truely consider snobs....one in paticular owns 2...and owns a "wine room" as in a place for tasting and buying wine.....

Yeah, I was really only referring to the Grand Wagoneers with the "horsey set"/well cared-for commentary. Every J-series pickup I've ever encountered was worked to death, and most of the 2-door SJs were owned by younger, single guys/gals or childless couples that were going to use them for some kind of adventure (read: beating).

The 2-doors were the original Cherokee, before the XJ was even a structural engineer's childhood nightmares. There were Chief, Honcho, and Renegade packages on those at some point. I think the Macho was reserved solely for pickups, which had their own Honcho package. I saw a J10 Honcho at the junkyard yesterday. The Comanche was the XJ pickup; I don't know if they used the name prior to that on the 2-door SJs or not.

nope i was wrong you nailed the names..tho i think the one were both forgetting was the "chiefton"..i have and always will like teh "early" ones 2dr or pu

Per Wikipedia:

"Other than the base model, the trim levels of the Cherokee included the S (Sport), Chief, Golden Eagle, Golden Hawk, Limited, Classic, Sport, Pioneer, and Laredo."

I'm thinking the local dealer must've put Renegade and Honcho decals on themselves, because I know there were at least two different Renegades in the area at one point, and a co-worker at one of my foundry jobs had one with Honcho decals on it. All of 'em were rusty, battered originals. Maybe it was done to help move them off the lot. The AMC dealer was definitely a real car guy; when his son was born, Dad drove Mom to the hospital in a Plum Crazy '70 Hemi Challenger 4-speed car that was on their used-car lot at the time. That kid was a year behind me in high school, so the Challenger was a year old at the time. The dealer told me, "Funny thing, I don't think that car was ever driven so slowly or carefully at any other point in its life!"
