Lee Iacoca was showing off with the 1981 - 83 Imperials. He wanted to offer the best that Chrysler had and introduce an all new in house engineered EFI. The Imperial was the result of that showing off. The best parts were tested and hand picked to be installed on the Imperials. That combined with a higher level of assembly quality, inspection, and bustle back design, made for an initial hit in the automotive world. This car in it's white with chrome wire (Imperial Only) hub caps presents probably the best looking of the available body colors.
The fuel injection failed as did almost all of the Imperials and was dealer replaced - however, the sticker that is supposed to be on the door jam showing the mileage before replacement of the odometer cluster (part of the fuel injection swap out) is not there - but the car presents and drives as a low mileage car.
The car is mostly excellent original with a few minor flaws. The under hood was disassembled and restored to original appearance minus a couple of stickers. The air conditioning has been upgraded to R-134 and the cooling system has had two electric fans added to the condenser/radiator package. Also, the electric fuel pumps back up the original mechanical pump. New tires were the only other thing required to bring this vehicle up to superior standards.
The Imperials were offered in a Frank Sinatra edition. They were all powder metallic blue. I can't imagine Frank Sinatra driving anything but an all white or an all black car - because the blue was kind of ugly on the car. So this vehicle has been equipped with the Frank Sinatra console and the 14 carat gold plated Frank Sinatra badges on the fenders but it still needs one for the trunk.

Cushion on the driver's seat and passengers need new leather (pictured) on the face. The leather needs replaced and is presentable but not up to the caliber that is the rest of the car. The back seat carpeting and trim panels are perfect. Head liner has been removed and refurbished (all Imperial head liners fell) and the jams have been detailed along with the under hood.

Options: The Imperial was offered with only three options: a choice of wheels, a choice of stereo, sun roof or not. This has no sun roof and a cassette player.

The 81-83 Imperials are not considered true "collector" cars but this is a must have for every Imperial enthusiast, and this is an exceptional example as most of them are in the junk yard or trashed out and are far beyond resurrection.

Engine: 5.2L 318Cu. In. V8 GAS OHV Naturally Aspirated
VIN: 2A3BY62J0CR182821
Mileage: 16,571 (Cluster was replaced and true mileage is unknown)
The undercarriage of the car exhibits the condition of the car above. For an unrestored undercarriage it is in excellent shape. It shows once again a lack of corrosion and originality. Suspension bushings are solid and supple with none needing replacement and any that did already being attending to. This car drives very straight, rattle free, and is a superb road car. One interesting shot is the rear axle with its applied Pentastar. Imperial components were picked from the line, spun on a purpose built tester (in this case a rear axle dynamometer) and proofed before being installed on an Imperial and a Pentastar applied.
