1980 Volare..

What body is it considered? Anyone? Can you put in a 400 727 fairly easily? 68? Tell me! :)

Volare, oh oh, cantare, oh oh oh oh
Let?s fly way up to the clouds, away from the maddening crowds
We can sing in the glow of a star that I know of
Where lovers enjoy peace of mind
Let us leave the confusion and all disillusion behind
Just like bird of a feather, a rainbow together we?ll find
Volare, oh oh, e contare, oh oh oh oh
No wonder my happy heart sings
Your love has given me wings
Penso che un sogno cosi non ritorni mai piu
Mi dipingevo le mani e la faccia di blu
Poi d?improvviso venivo dal vento rapito
E incominciavo a volare nel cielo infinito

And its an F body. Got those or so sweet transverse torsion bars (dripping sarcasm). Straight line, fine. Subject to severe rot issues in salt environment. There are none in Atlantic Canada and we still have folks driving 1918 REO Speedwagons and 1977 Vegas.

Those F-body cars fit big blocks in them fairly easy,I've seen a few around with 400's & 440's.Myself I prefer the 360 as mine responded well to the mods I did:giggedy:

A 400 would be a nice transplant, less issues for fitment than my 440. Also, 400's used the spool mounts, same as the Volare.

I had to modify the pan on mine , but this may not be an issue depending on the original application of the donor.

V8 Volares came with a 28" radiator which is marginal for even a 318. I would try to match a rad to the donor and make it fit.

The master cylinder may not be as much of an issue with the shorter 400, but I had to swap in a 69 B-body vac. booster.

Driveshaft will need to be shortened.

I think Schumacher makes a kit that includes everything needed to make the swap.:hmmm:

The big issue is the exhaust, Ma never intended for these cars to ever have duals or a big block. So every part of the exhaust has to be custom bent. A decent muffler shop can make what's needed, but the only decent spot to exit is directly behind the wheels.

I did have to modify the drivers side manifold , but this may not bother with the narrower 400.

i know on the aspen i used to have i just couldnt stand driving it on the highway. it was quite "floaty" and the hoods are flimsy and at 70+ mph the hood looked like it was gonna tear the latch off and fly up.

Had me one a dem F bodies, twas badged a Road Runner at that. With the rear sway bar and sure-grip rear it was a blast to drive. :vroom:

Would this be an engine and trans combo formerly destined for a Charger?

You mean there are still some Volares around here?

I had a 76 Volare/Road Runner with a 360 (2 bbl) and a Sure Grip. That thing was FAST compared to anything else available back then.

76 was an "overlap" year, 1st year for the F body and last for the A-body. Many parts interchanged between them.

I never compared dimensions between F & A's, but they're both a lot smaller than my B's. :(

I just cant get into a F bod road runner. I know they are smaller and should be lighter than a B but its just not the same.
