Well the project has started, just have a little more of the cab to strip and then it down to cutting out and replacing rusty floors and going crazy with the rust proofing.

Any suggestions as what to you to seal the metal after I've wire wheeled the whole underside of the cab?:huh:


The frame is outside right now, this one you could actually call a "frame off" resto. :D

grind the welds down and use seam sealer. like a cacking and you spread it out with you thumb and make sure it covers your welds and thats it. then prime---
 
I like to spray somthing over what I've welded.

I usually use pickup truck bed liner or somthing of the like but I was wondering is there is somthing better like POR-15 maybe???
 
I would use POR-15 myself. I haven't used it yet but it seems to have good reviews from everybody who has used it.
 
You want my professional oppinion? Rustoleums Rusty metal primer before you use seam sealer. Why you might ask? my boss and I primered a mustang that he owns and we work on when we're slow, which hasnt been for a very long tiem. anyways, we sandblasted it and then used the rusty metal primer. then we got busy and ended up sitting it outside. for about 4 months. the epoxied areas rusted. the rustoleum areas didnt.

anyways its also only about 25 bucks a gallon. just thin it out with acetone and spray it out with a standard spray gun. works like a charm. then seam seal. If i were you I sure as hell wouldnt put even seam sealer on bare metal. if it flakes off your screwed.

another option is a epoxy based truck bedliner, which you can spray right over bare metal without any problems.
 
Buy the cheapest brushes you can get and when you're done, throw them away....'cuz you'll never get them clean.:doh:

Oh, and wear gloves too, if ya git dat chit on your hands you won't get them clean either. :bwuhaha:
 
they are rite about painting first over the weld. i thot i mentioned that. never thot of bed liner tho. good stuff. a friend has that on his pu bed and it is sprayed on about 1/8 and you can,t chip it under normal use but looks goog when you paint it.. sorry---ORVIL
 
when doing the 69 fastback rollover cuda we wire wheeled most all of the floors befor it went to the body shop to have the roof wrongly re-done ..we coated it with the eastwood stuff..went to check on its progress a few months later and it was siting outside with the floors litteraly full of water 4 months later they told us the car was "done" the roof was WAY off and the floors still full of water...the eastwood stuf realy works...

however on a truck i would then coat the eastwood with a rubberized bedliner for further protection and noise reduction...its what i did on my ramcharger
 
yes wear gloves. It doesnt come off your hands for at least a month. I'm a 2 time veteran of being stupid and not wearing gloves.

at least i didnt get "herculiner on the hootus" remember that gem fellas?
 
Diplomat Wagon did your custom have 2 gas tanks? My 77 150 custom did, one inside the cab (which I thought was outlawed back in the mid 70's) and one under the bed. Under the drivers side of the seat there is a lever for switching tanks, plus an electric switch and a water filter? Was this some mismatched marvel to fireballism? My manual shows pictures of a in-cab tank but don't say much about it.
