1972 Dodge Challenger - $29,995 - Charlotte, NC - Few will argue that the E-body isn't one of Chrysler's best-ever designs and this 1972 Challenger is ample proof. Dressed in eyeball-burning Top Banana Yellow with black R/T stripes it's all about high-profile performance. Fortunately with a potent 360 under the hood speed will be the least of your worries. With the same great looks that make Hemi versions worth more than a million bucks this Challenger delivers a knockout look on a much more reasonable budget. However as a lifelong southern car there are no worries about rust or amateur metal patching and the ultra-straight sheetmetal on this E-body looks amazing in person. Note how the detail line that follows the curve of the fenders aligns exactly as it moves from panel to panel and the bright yellow paint shows off better-than-average gaps all around. The blackout hood treatment and R/T stripes are classic Mopar styling cues along with the ducktail spoiler that was lifted from the competition-bred Challenger R/T. A blacked-out grille with a body-color surround is one of the better-looking designs of the era and the few chrome bits remaining on the car have been brightly polished to stand out. Looking fast was still part of the program in 1972 so high-back buckets a console and a leather-wrapped Tuff Wheel remained on the Challenger's options sheet. Beautifully restored the highly authentic interior shows you that you don't need wild modifications to have a great driving environment. Things like the seat covers door panels carpets and dash pad are all new on this car and the only notable upgrades are a column-mounted tach and a set of auxiliary gauges under the dash but once you see what's under the hood you'll understand why they're there. Entertainment not delivered by the engine is handled by a powerful AM/FM/CD stereo with massive speakers on the rear package shelf. A full-sized spare with jack lives in the rust-free trunk along with a new mat. The engine is a built 360 cubic inch V8 and until you've experienced a well-sorted small-block E-body you haven't lived. The engine snarls and has instant throttle response thanks to a Holley double-pumper atop an Edelbrock intake and the MSD ignition keeps the fires lit. Hemi Orange paint Mopar performance valve covers and tidy workmanship make this an engine bay that's beautifully functional but not over-done so you won't be afraid to dip into the throttle out on the road. It's backed by a stout TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic and an 8.75-inch rear end and you'll be delighted to see how solid and rust-free the floors are. Subframe connectors enhance the body structure and keep squeaks and rattles at bay and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system uses rectangular tips to deliver the right sound with the right look. Classic chrome Cragar mags complete the '70s performance look and wear deeply staggered 185/80/15 front and 225/70/15 rear BFGoodrich radials. A high-impact Challenger with enough performance to keep your mother up at night-just what you've always wanted. Call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
