1971 Dart Swinger 340

This car came from Huntsville Alabama. I will soon start digging up any history I can find on the car.
I do have the original bill of sale from Huntsville Dodge.

Original 318 car this one..........

The last owner thought he had an original "H" code 340 car. He had a break down of the VIN with the paper work
Sorry for him but the "H" he is looking at is NOT the engine code.

I got this car from a Dodge dealership that had no clue about old cars. They told me the car has a 318 in it. I checked the VIN and figured it may be original since the engine code was "G". I didn't check too hard on the engine at the time since I have a 69' 340 block sitting in the garage at home anyway. I traded in 2 Ski-Doo's and a trailer on the Dart...... They gave me a dealer plate to drive the car home, she rides real nice.

When I got the car home I climbed under the car with a flashlight to check some numbers. It's a 1972 340 block with J Heads
Took the car in for safety check without touching anything, it passed.

Very nice! Is the '70 an H-code car? I mean, that thing just looks too nice to part out, but believe me I would understand it. Right now, I have a project engine and hopefully I'll find something to house it. Tough times here; check out my "This hurts" thread in the Parts for Sale forum. Big ouch, but I have most of the parts to duplicate those heads and very little idea why. I guess I had too much money at some point. :D

Yes the 70 is a nice solid H-code car. I considered swapping the dash with VIN from the 70 into my 71
I have a couple guys wanting to buy the 70 complete, well as it sits anyway. 1 offered $1500, the other $2500........
I told them both no because I was offered $1500 just for the rear-end if I would ship it.
I know the front fenders are worth a bunch because when I restored my 72 I paid over $1400 for a pair from Texas Acres
It also has black seats that are like new condition. The underside of the car has been done already too, not a spot of rust under it.
The undercoat was all scraped off then cleaned it with a wire wheel, then coated with a 2 part primer. New shocks front & rear and all new steering components up front. Front disc brake converted with small bolt. It has the real N-96 hood but thats going to get swapped with my other car.
I sanded the whole car to bare metal and shot a quick coat of primer on it. Now I'm having a hard time letting it go. Wife says its gotta go, but I'm thinking, why not have 2 :hmmm:

I hate to see a real one die a heinous death, that's all. I understand your situation, though, and I won't judge you for what you're considering. You've been gone awhile and missed the sad tale of my friend's '71 Twister. Yeah, it was a 318, but it had all the goodies including the 8.75" rear end, disc brakes, dual-scoop hood, console, Rallye dash with tach, you name it, and a perfect "sharktooth" grille. He offered me a screaming deal on it but I couldn't swing it--this was a solid Georgia car, too. E5 red, to boot. After trying to sell it for a couple of years, it got parted out. He kept the data tags, VIN, and build sheet while the car hogged a stall in his garage. After several failed eBay auctions on a stripped-but-solid Southern body with all documentation and a reserve of only $300, he hauled it to the crusher. He made over 3 times what he asked me of it, and at the time it had a complete, later E58 360 and 727 in it. All he kept were the engine and trans, some pictures, and memories of a car he really wanted to restore but money just didn't allow that to happen.

Oh, and you got totally stroked on those fenders. Even here in Rust Country, you're talking maybe $400 for the pair in perfect shape.

I hate to see any car go to the crusher

We had a plans to do the 70 in Snakeskin Green. Now considering doing that with the 71. So I told the wife I may just keep do the shell of the 70 while we drive the 71 for a year, then when I get that far on the 70 I can just change it all over from the 71 to the 70

I just sold those fenders to a guy for $1000 cash, and he was happy as sh!^ to be getting them at that price. He said when I told him the price on the phone he didn't expect them to be in as nice condition as they are.

That just knocked the balance of my loan to under $3k....Gotta get the loan paid off so I can start buying performance parts for my 71 :vroom:

This be Ca-Na-Da where we we get to pay 30% - 150% more for everything than our brothers South of the border even though our dollar has been at Par or better for almost half a decade.

The going price (value) for things in the US often has little bearing on what we pay for stuff here. It's why so many well - off Canadians flock to pay the inflated prices at events like Barrett - Jackson. From our perspective, it's a bargain.

This is why I'm thankful I live next to the Canada/USA border. I buy 95% of my stuff from teh US and have it shipped to my US address. Then go down, pick it up and bring it across myself, and rarely do I ever have to pay taxes, or duties. I'm sure I have saved tens of thousands of dollars on stuff, with over 25 years of wrenching.

I do also. I just picked up a set of ceramic coated headers last week from Summit, total cost $303.... I sure can't buy them in Canada for that price.

The guy that bought my fenders has purchased other items from me in the past, and yes I do give him some good deals as well.
He also just bought my Rally Dash with wire harness for $200, which sells for $400 on Ebay. A few years back I gave him a set of Ramchargers Scoops for $150, another bargain. Just putting that out there, don't want everyone to think I'm one of those guys that wants gold for everything, lol

I wasn't knockin' you, my friend. If I knew A-car fenders were bringing even half that here I'd be out pulling 'em!

Last pair of Dart fenders I sold, '72 I think, I got $250 and that was with the extensions. I sold a pair of '73 Duster fenders, and they were almost perfect only brought $200.
