1970 Plymouth GTX - $40,000 - Manitowoc, WI - All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance.Back in 1970 the GTX was Plymouth's top-of-the-line offering for luxury performance. As such, it is one of the more rare Mopars today, with only 7,748 units built that year (compared to 41,484 Road Runners). It remains one of the best looking examples of the B-body platform.
This car is a real RS23 GTX. It was most recently titled in Florida, and based on its excellent straight body and rust-free undercarriage, appears to have been a southern car most of its life. This example was originally a painted FF4 Lime Green Metallic but has since been repainted in the much more brilliant EK2 Vitamin C Orange. It has the correct reflective GTX striping along with Magnum wheels and Firestone Wide Oval F60-15 tires. Note too the J45 hood pins, dual side mirrors, and bumper guards.
Under the hood is the numbers-matching 440ci 375hp. It has been rebuilt and remains stock except for an Edelbrock Performer carburetor (a Carter AFB is included). This is a 4-speed GTX with the one-of-a-kind pistol grip shifter, along with the nearly-indestructible Dana 60 setup. The car also has power steering and B51 power front disc brakes.
The black interior is highlighted by a Rallye woodgrain dash with tachometer, along with a woodgrain center console and steering wheel. All gauges work properly except the clock. The dash lights, courtesy lights, turn signals, horn, heater, vents, and wipers all work too. This car has the A01 lighting package which includes hood mounted turn signals which are also functional, as are the map light and glove box light.
As you might expect, you will not go unnoticed in this car. It has tremendous visual appeal and sounds like a 440 should (especially with its Flowmaster mufflers). There is also the desirability of a GTX, numbers matching motor, nice options, and great overall condition to make this a solid Mopar investment.
