1970 Jeep CJ5 - $14,500 - Green Valley, AZ - This Jeep is a true collector’s item! It has 10,300 ORIGINAL miles and has had only very minor modifications from the day it was purchased. I am the 2nd owner.
The Jeep was purchased in Nov. 2007 from a TX lake property owner. It was in a barn and not driven since 1993. At that time it had 3800 miles. There was very minor surface rust on the fenders and naturally didn’t run well from sitting, but had no major issues. Since purchase there have been several documented repairs and enhancing to keep it original, but make it run properly. Original seats and vinyl, too. All original equipment and manuals are included. The major items done are:
“Frame off” body and frame painting—0riginal color
Transmission and rear axle repairs
Full and bikini top (includes original ½ top)
Tires and rims (includes original rims)
Roll bar
I have almost $22000.00 in the Jeep. Any work performed was strictly to enhance condition, not to customize. If you are interested in a one of a kind, you must see this vehicle!

The first "true" Mopar Jeep was the ZJ. Development had started at AMC, but much of the design was done by Chrysler engineers. Anything prior to that is just an AMC including the YJ, the Eagle Premiere, etc. The only true Mopar of the Eagle division was the Vision.

Well Jeep is now owned by Chrysler(whatever it is now. LLC?) therefore Jeep is considered a Mopar product. This particular Jeep may not have been under the Chrysler ownership but, it's part of the family, just once removed or married in... or however that works. ;)

I strongly disagree, GillBreather. As much as I like AMC cars, Jeeps, etc. I don't feel they have any right to be considered Mopars unless they were built after 1987. You call it a stepchild, I call it a bastard. That's like saying since GM and Chrysler are partners in AAM and New Venture, we should allow Chevy pickups at the Mopar Nats. How about older Chevy and Ford pickups with New Process transfer cases or transmissions? Their Chrysler-part content is every bit as high, if not higher, than most classic Kelvinators.

I can't remember what year it was, but we were at the Mopar Nats and a guy was lamenting loudly about the lack of AMC stuff in the swap meet. A friend of mine looked at him and said, "You're not at an AMC show. You're at a Mopar show. If you don't like it, stay at AMC meets." I think that was the first time it occurred to the guy that the Mopar Nationals were not going to turn into an AMC affair.

Not very many of the hard-core AMC fans liked to be bunched into the Mopar camp either.

Your Chevy truck example doesn't make any sense in this instance. Naturally since Jeep ('87 and newer or not) is now owned by Chrysler. The older models still carry the Jeep nameplate therefore they are considered Mopars as well. Like it or not, the Jeep brand is now Mopar. Regardless of how old it is, it still carries the name.

So if I was to marry your Mom you'd suddenly be a Payant? Morseo than someone who was born with some actual Payant blood in them? It makes perfect sense to me.

68R/T brings up a good point, too--the die-hard AMC guys are fiercely independent, as was AMC until they could no longer hang in there after being stroked by Renault. They don't want to be labeled as Mopar guys any more than they want to be labeled GM guys for having TH transmissions in many of the cars.

For many years the Mopar crowd was shunned by the ford & GM guys, but even moreso the AMC guys were shunned by everyone. So, it comes almost natural to many of both camps to try to find a kind of "kinship" between them. Kinda like when nerds hang out with other nerds. :shifty:

So if I was to marry your Mom you'd suddenly be a Payant?
:D Well no, I'd still carry my last name but, if you were to have a kid with my mom, he or she would be a Payant and I'd be part of your family by proxy. Your family would become my step-family.

I guess I should have more faith in adopting things I don't want to adopt. After all, that's how I got my name. :D :D :D
