1970 Dodge - $130,000 - Sudbury, ON - 1970 Dodge Charger R/TThe Dodge Charger was introduced on January 1, 1966. Built off of the Dodge Coronet chassis but using its own body, the Charger was Dodge’s first fastback, high-speed street machine. It featured many styling cues from the Charger II concept car like a fastback roof design and full width tail lamps. The second generation 1968 Charger is undeniably the main reason for its sales sensation; the new "Coke bottle" look made the Charger one of the best-looking performance cars of the 1960s. In order to further boost the Charger’s muscle car image, a new high-performance package was added, the R/T. It would be the high performance badge that would establish Dodge’s performance image, only the high performance cars were allowed to use the R/T badge. In 1970 Dodge introduced the regular production Charger with only minor changes from the previous two years; most notable was the front loop bumper which gave it a more formal look.
This particular car was the recipient of a full rotisserie restoration, nothing was overlooked. Finished in flawless white, it comes with black vinyl roof, black performance hood treatment, bumble bee stripe, and complimented with black/charcoal vinyl bucket seat/console upholstery. Other niceties include period correct Good Year Polyglas F60-15 tires with painted steel wheels/hubcaps and a correct red cap Mopar battery. Also it’s highly detailed under the hood and chassis with all the correct factory assembly paint dabs and finishes being replicated, a nice detail that’s often overlooked on most restorations. The best feature about this car is its Numbers Matching, from the radiator to the rear differential, a rarity with any muscle car. Driven only 200 miles since completion and always kept in a climate controlled environment. Chrysler built 403 Charger R/T’s in white, of those how many were of the 159 built with the “V” code super track pak option like this car? Who knows?
