MS CLASSIC CARS is proud to present a beautiful 1970 Dodge Challenger RT 440. As my website indicates I’ve been collecting classic cars and trucks for over 15 years. You’ll hopefully agree with the quality of the vehicles I’ve collected and sold I’m very particular and detail oriented. I’ve always liked the 1970 Dodge Challenger RT and searched for a long time for the right car. One day I was searching the internet and I found this beautiful classic. The car you’re about to witness was love at first sight for me. As stated above this car is a true 1970 Challenger RT 440 with air conditioning and was born red with black interior! I purchased the car from a gentleman named Claude Thornhill in North Carolina who personally did the entire restoration from start to finish over the course of seven months. Here’s the story Claude told me about the car, “The story about the Challenger is the car had been at two or three restoration shops for the last six or seven years. It was to be a Vanishing point car. The last shop it was taken to it sat for a couple of years and the owner was finally given a price of over $70,000 to restore it. He became frustrated and gave up on the car and sold it. When I purchased the car my original plan was to just get it running and assemble it and sell it. After inspecting the car from top to bottom I realized it was in excellent original condition and it deserved a full blown rotisserie restoration. This is truly the first rust free car I’ve ever restored. During the restoration I discovered on top of the original red paint the car had been painted blue and white over the years but was in great shape. During the seven month restoration I used the E-body restoration manual as a guide on the correct nuts, bolts, factory markings, etc. This way the car would be as accurate as when it left the factory. I took the car to an all Mopar Car Show in Farmington, NC which is a large southeast regional show and won first place which affirmed all my hard work and restoration skills”.
This car was a meticulous rotisserie restoration that was truly a labor of love. The car was originaly built on Tuesday October 21st in at the Los Angeles, CA plant. The sheet metal is all original and is very straight with excellent gaps. The hood, doors and trunk open and close very easily. The car is painted in its original red color that looks absolutely beautiful. The car was color sanded and buffed to a show quality shine. Everything on the exterior has been restored or replaced. Some exterior options that it was born with include hood blackout, drip molding, and RH/LH remote mirrors. It sits on the correct style rims with Bias Ply tires.
The exterior is complimented with a brand new black interior. The car was born with black interior. Everything in the interior has been restored or replaced. Some interior options that it was born with include a tachometer, AM radio, 3-spd wipers, rally gauges, console and bucket seats. The trunk compartment is also very detailed and correct.
The engine compartment is highly detailed and houses the date coded 440 engine. This engine came from the factory with 375 horsepower. Everything has been restored or replaced. It has all the correct stickers and factory markings. It even has the correct battery. This engine starts and runs excellent. In all of my years looking at classic cars this is one of the most detailed Mopar engine compartments I’ve ever seen!
The undercarriage is also highly detailed and has all the factory markings. It was on a rotisserie and taken down to bare metal and was finished in the correct material. Everything was restored or replaced. This undercarriage is definitely worthy of a mirror underneath at a car show.
Ever since I’ve purchased this car I’ve paid a lot more attention to 1970 Challengers on the market for sale. I’ve only seen one or two that could hold a candle to this one. This car has a lot going for it! First, how many 1970 Challenger RT 440’s are there on the market for sale? Second, how many of them have all the original sheet metal? Third, how many of them were born red with black interior. Fourth, how many were born with air conditioning? Lastly, how many of them are restored to the level of this car? If you’ve been searching for a 1970 Challenger you’ve found your ride. Get it before someone else does! Listed below is a breakdown of the VIN number and fender tag numbers.
