Have you always dreamed of owning a top dog Mopar street bruiser? Well with this jaw dropping Challenger R/T you can do all three! Fully restored equipped with a balanced and built 440 Magnum V8 and propelled by a smooth shifting 3-speed automatic transmission this awesome Dodge drop-top is guaranteed to provide a level of visceral excitement that simply can't be beat. So if you're one of the many classic car enthusiasts who wants to enjoy the hobby to its fullest extent this road-ready Mopar is without a doubt one of the best deals on the planet! As the beneficiary of a high quality frame-off restoration which brings new meaning to the phrase 'showroom-fresh appeal' this superfly Challenger R/T's refurbished panels and Plum Crazy Purple paint are as crisp as a fall morning at the local drag strip. The car's top notch rebuild began with first-rate sheetmetal that was stripped sanded and massaged to better than factory condition. Once that clean canvas was correctly aligned and its intimidating slab-sided ambiance was fully reconstructed a slick coat of modern urethane was expertly applied under a thick clearcoat shell. And when that High Impact finish had fully cured every inch of the car's body was buffed into the spectacular head turning pavement pounder you see here!
Wearing lines that originated on Chrysler designer Carl Cameron's famous Charger turbine concept this classic convertible makes a bold and distinctly Mopar styling statement from virtually every angle. At the front of the car a gray body-width grille hangs a bold ''Challenger R/T'' script between four pristine headlights clear round parking lights and a mirror-like chrome bumper. At the top of the car an R/T specific hood which is complete with two small scoops two pristine ''440 SIX PACK'' emblems stainless hood pins and a bright ''DODGE'' script rides in front of like-new glass that's framed by bright stainless trim and a white vinyl top. At the sides of the car prominent fender lines which are complemented by dent-free wheel well trim flush fitting satin door handles and body-matched sport mirrors ride between wide-set ''Challenger R/T'' fender scripts and arrow-straight rocker moudlings. And at the back of the car a stainless trimmed rear valence hangs ''DODGE'' branded tail lights between a flat black decklid spoiler a second pristine chrome bumper and correct quad-outlet exhaust tips. With its broad shouldered styling and killer visual appeal no one is going to argue that this impressive old Challenger isn't a full-blooded American muscle car!
Lift this rag-top's long purple hood and you'll find a stout 440 cubic inch Magnum V8 that was fully balanced fully detailed and completely rebuilt during the car's extensive restoration. At the top of that 450 horsepower mill an oversize air cleaner which proudly displays a bold ''440 SIX PACK'' decal funnels wind into a high performance aluminum intake through a trifecta of 2-barrel carburetors. That rich air/fuel mixture is sparked by a modern MSD 6 AL ignition system which bounces fire between a familiar MSD coil and reliable Moroso Blue Max plug wires. That fire triggers impressive 9.25 to 1 compression under Edelbrock Performer RPM heads which prop attractive Mopar Performance valve covers opposite a forged steel crank and a .484 HEMI grind Mopar Performance Purple cam. That compression is cooled by a heavy duty aluminum radiator which circulates a steady flow of water around a correct belt driven fan via pliable rubber hoses. And resultant spent gases are evacuated by a slick pair of Hedman ceramic coated headers which roar into stainless true dual pipes and throaty dual chamber mufflers. Naturally this glossy HEMI Orange powerhouse has been nicely finished with items like a full set of ARP rod bolts a high volume fuel pump a high quality windage tray and a massive seven quart oil pan. The car's Plum Crazy Purple engine bay is every bit as clean as it is impressive. And with a little help from a reproduction Mopar yellow cap battery the car's fully-sorted powertrain springs to life and settles into a smooth high performance cadence on good 'ole fashioned pump gas!
By 1970 most street racers knew an automatic transmission wasn't necessarily a performance handicap. And that open mindset is probably why so many big power Mopar builds including this top-dog Challenger R/T are still centered on beefy Chrysler 3-speeds. In front of that rebuilt transmission a fully restored factory suspension makes good use of heavy duty torsion bars a heavy duty sway bar factory power steering and a pair of fresh KYB shocks. Behind that rebuilt transmission a familiar 8.75 Sure Grip rear end utilizes steep 3.91 gears heavy duty leaf springs a factory rear sway bar and a second pair of fresh KYB shocks. At the sides of that rebuilt transmission a 2.5 inch TTI exhaust system sends spent gases through an H-pipe crossover to dual chamber Dynomax mufflers and correct stainless tips. At the sides of that mandrel bent exhaust system fresh power front disc and rear drum brakes provide solid and reliable stops. And on the outside of those power brakes a traditional set of 15 inch Chrysler Rallye wheels utilize 235/60 front and 255/60 rear Dunlop G/T Qualifiers to throw power to the ground with authority. As with the body of the car 'clean' is the name of the game down below where glowing Plum Crazy Purple paint covers spotless floors a solid frame and straight inner fenders. A roster of black and gray suspension and driveline components are virtually paint booth fresh. And a fresh stainless fuel tank fresh stainless fuel and brake lines and fresh stainless hardware ensure years of safe and carefree cruising.
Take a seat inside this great looking E-Body and you'll find a nicely restored white vinyl interior that's detailed with both tasteful wood accents and bright stainless trim. The first thing you'll notice is the car's high quality bucket seats which feature comfortable pleats on top of straight frames and what feels like new foam. The second thing you'll notice is new black carpet which is protected by cool ''R/T'' branded floor mats. And the third thing you'll notice is the optional factory console which wraps a traditional pushbutton shifter in what seems like a mile of fade-free wood surfacing. At the sides of the car correct full door panels hang new chrome door handles and cool chrome lock tabs between four chrome window cranks. At the front of the car a great looking black dash hangs a rebuilt instrument cluster above a modern Kenwood CD player. At the back of the car a tight white convertible cowl snaps over a fully restored trunk which comes complete with a new mat a correct space saver spare and a couple of serious Custom Autosound speakers. And in front of the driver an attractive satin-spoke steering wheel mixes a whole lot of form with a whole lot of function.
The sale of this awesome drop-top Dodge includes manuals for both its Kenwood head unit and trunk-mounted Custom Autosound speakers.
Cars like this restored and massaged convertible are what make the hobby fun. They take a laundry list of fresh and reliable hardware combine it with enough fire power to humble even modern performance machines and then sprinkle in a slew of trophy winning ingredients. Best of all in a sea of traditional over-exposed Mopars you'll have a unique piece that runs every bit as good as it looks. If you're in the market for some killer old school muscle that you can actually drive and enjoy this Challenger is your kind of car!
