1965 Plymouth Barracuda - $14,900 - Lincoln, NE - 1965 Plymouth Barracuda, 1965 was the first full year of Barracuda production. This car has the original 180hp 273 V-8 motor, automatic transmission, PS PB, bucket seats and console shifter. Fully restored in 2001, and a garage queen since then.I bought this car in 1990 with 80,000 miles on it and it was my daily driver until 2001 when I bought a PT Cruiser and restored the 'cuda. I've put 3,000 miles on it since then. Stripped to frame, professional paint and body work (no putty anywhere), original white exterior, new carpet and vinyl interior in original blue. In about 2000, they finally came out with patch panels for this car and as the rear wheel wells had developed some rust, these panels were patched in. All brazed, no putty; a professional restoration. I found a period 4-bbl Edelbrock intake and cast Edlebrock valve covers, put on a new Edelbrock 4-bbl carb, an electronic ignition, and hi-flow stainless 2-inch exhaust. The motor was running fine and so I left it alone, except in 1990 I had hardened valve seats installed. It still runs smooth and pulls strong with original internals. I had the transmission rebuilt during the restoration. I replaced the original 13-inch Chrysler wheels with new 14-inch rallye wheels and BFG Advantage tires that have about 3000 miles on them and the car rides much better on them. Also replaced the windshield which had become pitted and scratched. The car has newer: shocks, brakes, fuel pump, water pump, alternator, drive shaft... I installed a "Hidden audio" unit under the dash, so the car has AM/FM, but the original "Valiant" AM radio is sitll in the un-cut dash.
I kept the original 2-bbl intake, valve covers, and 2-bbl carb, as well as (7) original 13-inch steel wheels, and the (4) original "Rallye" hubcaps, They all come with the car.
The car has been kept in a heated garage for the last 13 years, under a custom cover. It has been rained on twice since 2001, IIRC.
In 1965 this car was the fishing car for the owner of the Plymouth dealership in Craig, CO. It sold to a Colorado rancher and artist in the 80s, then he sold it to me in 1990. 3 owners in 49 years. Never wrecked to my knowledge, and never abused. A good, clean Barracuda that runs smooth and reliable, and tracks straight.
