1963 Dodge Polara - $27,500 - Manitowoc, WI - All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. If you want to go fast in a Mopar, this 1963 Dodge Polara may be your ticket. With its beautiful black paint over a nice straight body, it looks manacing. And with a stroked 440 producing over 1000 hp, it is.
Hailing from California, this B-body is certainly an eye catcher. The old Polaras have a look all their own, but paint them black and it all seems to work. This car's recent paint is very nicely done and doesn't show any ripples or waves (and you can't hide anything with black). It also received subtle blue and purple pinstriping to give a little flair. Throw in the tinted windows and you've got one mean looking ride.
The drivetrain uses a 440 motor (casting 2536430-9) stroked to 496 cubic inches. It runs JE Nitrous series pistons (12.5:1) with Speed Pro HellFire rings and Clevite HP bearings, along with a main cap girdle. The camshaft is a Crower with solid roller lifters. The block wears max ported Edelbrock aluminum heads with Harlen Sharp rockers, and is topped by a Holley Dominator carb. Ignition uses an MSD 6AL with 2-step rev limiter and start retard. The motor is backed by a Mike's Powerglide transmission, East County driveshaft, and a hefty Dana 60 rear end with Strange axles. The drivetrain was redone in 2013.
This Polara was built with racing in mind (presently NHRA certified to 8.50 seconds in the 1/4 mile). It has a high quality roll cage with removable side bars along with a welded subframe underneath. It is loaded with related goodies including a line lock, trans brake, Shifnoid air operated shifter, and Innovate Motorsports DL32 data logger with O2 sensors. It is plumbed with a 300 hp shot of nitrous with an independent fuel pump, fuel cell, and purge line. Wheels are 15" Weld Pro Stars with Mickey Thompson tires (28.0/4.5 front, 29.5/13.5 rear). It has monoleaf rear springs with Cal Trac traction bars for good launches, and 4-wheel disc brakes for smooth stops. There are also electric exhaust cutouts; always a good time!
The interior has been refinished with racing buckets (which are surprisingly comfortable), new carpeting, and new door panels. The rear seat has been removed for the cage with nice sheetmetal work in its place. The original headliner is in excellent shape and hasn't been touched. Note this Mopar has a working horn, lights / high beams, turn signals, mufflers, and wipers (arms not installed but are included). There is no radio or heater.
There has been a huge sum of money spent on this car. It is crazy fast, loaded with features, and looks amazing with just the right amount of ugly. Whether you want to hit the track or create havoc on the street, this Mopar will get the job done.
