1962 MG A - $26,500 - Stratford, CT - A sensational car...........why?
Superb bodywork, perfect fit, show quality black paint. And, as we all know, BLACK shows every flaw. And this car is pretty close to flawless. New chrome, excellent trim, ALL new interior in deep red with leather seats, new top, new tonneau, good older side curtains, new chrome knock offs, hard to imagine a substantially better looking MGA.
Engine has perfect compression (150 psi in every cylinder) and oil pressure, no smoke, no appreciable oil leaks, and runs flawlessly. Wiring harness looks very good, new calipers and rotors, new master cylinder, front end is nice and tight (bushings and kingpins) with no worn or brittle wiring, everything works, and.........
Excellent ride, handling, steering, exhaust, etc.
Beautiful premium quality wood steering wheel, spotless trunk, nicely detailed engine bay, wire wheels with new radial tires, even has the original crank. Curiously, even the windshield surround has been rechromed...A LOT of attention to detail.
Whats left? Not much. I always thought black with red leather was just about the most dramatic combination in a sports car and MGAs are beautiful sports cars. The Mk II is the rarest of the three basis A models with the largest displacement of any MGA and the highest compression ratio of any MGA or MGB pushrod engine. Add disc brakes (which MG had six years before Porsche), incredibly precise rack and pinion steering, smooth ride, and.........hard to imagine a better all around classic sports car as a combination of lovely esthetics, ease of service and maintenance, availability of parts, the wonderful combination of 100 mph performance, disc brakes, wire wheels, and.................
An excellent example of this fine sports car and ready for show, cruising, or just 'round one's favorite country roads. And the reflections and color show the depth and quality of the show condition paingwork.
You might find a better MGA somewhere. BUT NOT THAT much better.
