1956 Dodge Sierra - $54,900 - Halton Hills, ON - LMC is proud to offer for sale this 1956 Dodge Sierra Wagon. Chrysler had a new lease on life in the mid 1950s with a $250 million loan and new models being designed by the legendary Virgil Exner. The Dodge lineup was positioned as the mainstream line in Chryslers hierarchy, between Plymouth and DeSoto. New and inspiring uses of chrome and colors made the 1956 Dodge one of the most attractive and immediately recognizable makes on the American road. Station Wagons were becoming a very important part of any car makers line-up with the continued growth of the suburbs and more people on the move. This generation of families needed a roomy wagon to go out and explore the new super highways of the land however Dad wanted some style with his wagon. For the first time, tri-tone color schemes were available on nearly all models including the Sierra Station Wagons. The Dodge Sierra Wagon was all-new with a longer 120" wheelbase and 212" in overall length. They shared their basic mechanicals with the De Soto, but featured very special Exner styling. This car design lasted through the 1955 and 1956 model years with six body styles and the V8 Serra Wagon within the Royal model line-up. The Royal and Sierra Wagon were the step between the Coronet and Custom Royal models. The Sierra was the top of the class in terms of a Wagon from the Dodge Division. Handsomest wagons on the Road to Success was the caption on the dealer brochureperhapsas many would argue that the Dodge was the most stylish wagon from the Big Three. This tri-colour 56 Dodge Sierra Wagon certainly delivers on that claim. Dodge also had Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz of the famous I Love Lucy TV series help promote the brilliantly styled 56 Dodge Wagon. Lift the two-tone hood and you view a nice silver 314 cu.in. V8 that produces a strong 218 hp. This power plant sits in a flat black engine bay that is in very nice condition. Power is connected to the New Dodge Magic Touch Control Automatic Transmission as it was promoted in 56. This Chrysler push button transmission was extremely easy to use and allowed designers to incorporate the shifter buttons into the dash. The Power-Flite two-speed automatic transmission, four-wheel hydraulic power drum brakes on a wheelbase 120.0? provided a very good handling and driving wagon. Power is delivered to the striking chrome wire wheels with the simulated knock off center caps that spin the white wall tires down the road. This 56 Dodge Wagon has a very appealing style during the car design era that was on the threshold of the rear tail fin craze. One does not think of these Dodge designs as having fin treatment however there is a modest look in the rear styling that really accentuates the fins very much in the same manner as the legendary 57 Chevy. The top of the fin is a full chrome fender extension. This Dodge Wagon is finished in a classic tri-color paint job of Oriental Coral, Iridescent Charcoal Metallic and Sapphire White for the roof. For most of us that translates to mean Orange/Grey/White which effectively shows off the wonderful lines and details of this wagon. The three paints are wonderful with very good depth and clarity. The impressive front design by Exner having a divided by the Dodge emblem grill that has a large chrome piece within each opening above the bumper guarded bright chrome front bumper. The chrome piece on the hood symmetrically runs around the design lines to perfectly divide the two body colors while really looking like the extension of the various levels of the front end bumper and grill design. Single head lamp was still the style of the day. The grey paint on the hood drapes over the front fender by the windshield and rolls through the window frames then dipping down to highlight the rear tail fin. A fine chrome band separates the lower body orange while the white top completes the 3-tone color scheme. Chrome door handles are sleek to the body. The front and back side doors both have vent windows while the back business door to the wagon storage area is a two-piece upper window/lower door unit that nicely slopes down between the stacked tail-lights. The round red and back-up tail lights are mounted in the white panel surrounded by a chrome detail piece. These tail lights have a wonderful artistic flare. The wrap around rear bumper has huge bullet shaped bumper guards with the dual exhaust exiting at the corners of the bumper. The well-appointed interior provides that nicely restored feeling all done in black and white vinyl. The driver slides onto the seat behind the two spoke steering wheel with the large chrome plate. The center is adorned with the Gold Dodge emblem and to the right the scripted Full Time Power Steering. This steering wheel allows the driver excellent viewing of the sprawling dash. The black and white pleated seats sit on grey carpeting. So stylish were these Chrysler interiors that even the front seat back panel has the same white pleated inserts as the sitting area of the two seats. Back seat entry is aided by the chrome assist handles mounted at the corners of the front seat back. On the back of the rear seats are chrome tie down hooks for the effective luggage storage in this wagon. Door panels have a multiple tiny square pattern within the chrome-look insert above the black and white vinyl. Now back to the gem of this interior which is the beautiful dash in upper Black and lower White. The round dash gauges, with a distinctive Teal colored face plate, spread all in a line across the satin white portion. The chrome accents adding great definition to the recessed sections of the dash. The chrome gauge rings and various control knobs really seem to pop-out on the white dash panel. The Push-Button Transmission controls are nicely positioned to the left of the driver while the AM Radio sits just under the Gold Dodge symbol on the Radio Grill. The interior is extremely well done and is in very good condition. This style-leading 56 Dodge Sierra Wagon decked out in the tri-colors of Oriental Coral, Iridescent Charcoal Metallic and Sapphire White will capture the eye of any Mopar fan or simply a Wagon enthusiast or car collectors that appreciate the fine artistic flare of one Virgil Exner.
