1952 Chrysler - $29,750 - Laguna Beach, CA - Featured in Velocity Channel's "Wheeler Dealer" episode next season, The Firedome 8 was introduced in 1952 just ahead of the DeSoto brands 25th Anniversary. The car featured one of the first incarnations of the now legendary Hemi engines - Chryslers new FirePower engine. Its 276 V8 produced 150hp and powered the Firedome to a top speed of 100mph. Its elegant yet racy coupe styling, coupled with this new hemi powerhouse, helped pave the way for the American muscle cars of the 60s and 70s.This excellent 1952 DeSoto Firedome 8 maintains its original innovative features including 3 speed fluid drive transmission, power steering and power braking. The driving experience is excellent, with good road holding and a luxury ride. The interior is in stunning condition. Bodywork is finished in eye catching bronze and chrome work is in great condition. Its clear that a lot of time and care has been afforded to this car.
Subtle modification of the original engine has given slightly increased performance. The car has been converted to run on unleaded fuel. The engine bay and running gear are very clean.
Seamlessly shaved door handles give this otherwise authentic classic a hint of hot rod styling. A much sought after split windscreen, original period hubcaps and whitewalls all add to this very well presented DeSoto.
Early Firedome examples are now few and far between so this is a great opportunity to own an iconic American marque. The car has been featured in the new series of Wheeler Dealers, and will be shown worldwide on Discovery & Velocity channels in the summer of 2015.
