Another sbc abortian........and priced about $14,000 too high. :dgt:

Am I the only one getting really tired of the rat-rod thing?

Ocasionally, seeing an "original" unintentional rat rod can be kind of refreshing, but the over-abundance of posers has gotten very old, very fast. It's a lot like a true hot rod with custom made brackets, adapters, etc. But if you open your check book to buy a billet bracket and just bolt it on, or worse, HIRE it done. get back in your Beemer and go home, you're not want 'round these parts. And buying those parts and painting them flat-black doesn't make it a rat rod.

A friend of mine's stepson has a rat rod. It's pretty cool, but it's true to form... knocked together in the garage for about 2 grand, classic style, '70 500 Caddy with straight pipes... meaning there are four exhaust exits on either side, because they made the headers for it and those end not far from the engine. It's a pickup but I can't remember what brand. Stretch might know. It's painted a gloss red, but the paint quality is far from perfect. I like it... it screams, "I did the best I could with what I had" rather than "I was trying to achieve a certain look". In my opinion, any rat rod with a SBC is someone going for a look, particularly if they're using an engine with center-bolt valve covers or worse yet an LSx engine.

Mopar guy that I am, I'm waiting for one to show up with a Lincoln V12 or a Caddy V16... that would be awesome.

im with you on all of the abouve doc

i love a good rat..but a "good" rat is far and few between..which is EXACTLY why ive gathered the parts i have...they are obscure!

however i have no issue going for a "look" so long as that look is to try and go the extra mile to making it a REAL honest RAT

if you have a SBC youve allready failed..if its any chevy auto 3spd and up..youve again FAILED a rat should 90% of the time be MANUAL..manual brakes manual everything

now if your running an odd ole 2spd auto..COOl more points to ya

and a rat has NO buisness with ANY billet of ANY kind..i dont care if its even the shiftknob..its an instant FAIL...powder coating..i have my issues with but at the same time i can see powder coating say axles so they maintain the look without weathering on ya..but it better be a FLAT color

I have never seen this.

You've never seen BS's stepson's Caddy-powered rod? That thing is cool! Am I mixing up cars? Is it black?

I've seen a black rat rod truck running around town, although never up close. Just in passing. It's cool. I've never been close enough to it to see what powers the black one. When I saw the black one last it had no windshild in it. AThe engine block was orange or red and he had white header pipes or headerwraped pipes. I dont remember. I saw it listed on craigs list a year or so ago and haven't seen it sense.
